Alright guys, I have a 88 bronco ii. I have manual lock out hubs and manual transfer case. When I lock it in 4x4 it works but it makes this horrible knocking noise when I'm driving and I turn the wheel, what could it be?

So it doesn't make any noise when in 2 wheel, only 4? Means there's something in the front axle. U-joints going? Did you crawl underneath and see if anything is out of place or wear marks? Axle shafts, front drive shaft firm? Can't wiggle them around a bunch? Hope this helps a little.

Sounds like a blown out u-joint to me. Somewhere in the front.

The u-joints on the outside of the D-28 are pretty weak.Make sure that the axle hasn't stretched out of shape. There good for that too.
