3.42 is a common ratio for the S-10/S-10 blazer chassis. i did have a '88 2wd supercab ranger with the 2.3 5 speed manual and 3.73's that i would pull a 1,600 pound starcraft boat without too much problem. one it even towed home a dead '87 astro van. (about 6,000 pounds if i remember right) it didnt like the van, spiked below 1,500 rpm. id almost go with 4.10's to pull 2,000 with. stopping is your biggest issue though. and dont use o/d.
