Alright all you experts out there! Ran into this one, what's everybody doing?
Have a '99 8.8 31 spline explorer axle, all new seals, bearings, blah blah, and installed 5.13 gears (originally 3.55 open). Tried to put in a mini-spool (yeah whatever they're cheap) and couldn't get the c-clips back in because the ring gear is too damn thick. Thought of running c-clip eliminator kit, but then I lose the e-brakes inside the disc brake rotors. To get around this one have thought of installing a "line lock" in the rear brake line to still have "an e-Brake" (doubt that shit's legal though, but who really cares right now I'm in KY and retiring in farmland AL in 6 months)!
So wasn't thinking well, returned the mini spool and ordered a Powertrax lock-rite. Still can't get the c-clip back in.
So those of you running 8.8 31 spline rears with disc brakes and anything geared lower than 4.56, what are your running for lockers or L/S?
I really don't want to order a Detroit but coming real close to dropping the coin.
Oh and I really don't want to lincoln lock it.

Grind the ring gear teeth slightly so you can get the crosspin in past it (doesn't hurt a thing, the very tips of the teeth where you grind the pinion never makes any contact with anyway).
I had to do this on mine and no problems (it's actually pretty common practice).

Last, I would weld it loooonnng before running a POS mini-spool in a c-clip axle. c-clip mini-spools are a whole bunch of little pieces that like to break (they are not a single solid chunk like for non-c-clip apps).
