6v Lantern Battery

Does anyone know the shelf life of 6v Lantern Batteries. I hear that they can be stored without being used for long periods of time whereas akaline batteries will go bad.

Isn't the 6v latern battery the same as an akaline? There should be a "best before" date stamped or printed on the battery.

ya i think they are akaline. i know they dont like the cold.
