I'm almost done swapping a 98 5.0 in my 99 ranger. I have to change the fuel system to a return style system. The expo pump won't fit the ranger tank and the ranger pump puts out to much presure. What pump do I use? I was counting on using the expo pump so I went on with the swap I really need to drive it home tomorrow. Please help thanks

The ex tank should fit the ranger frame. If not, just run it. If you are running a return style system, it should regulate the pressure by them for...

I would. Return style needs 35-45, while returnless needs 55-65. The pressures are not that great of a difference, you might run slightly on the rich side, but that won't hurt the engine...

Hey guys im in the process now of gettiń my fuel pump sorted out. I was wondering how it worked out for you? Im ready to add a return line but i figured the regulator would just use the gas it needs and return whats left back into the tank.

You're correct in your thinking. What's your specs(year or truck, year of engine/ECU/fuel system)?

The 4.0, is that the ohv or the SOHC? I'm guessing you have the SOHC which means you have no return. You can simply get a fuel rail from a 98+ 4 banger truck that had return lines, or run your own return 5/16 lines, and grab a 4 banger fuel pump assembly...

Sohc no return line. 96 ranger has a return line . Im using the 96 fuel rail making a return line to the tank. I hope the diffrence in pressure wont mess up my fuel regulator

Not the rails, the frame mounted lines. The pump has the capacity to run a V8 without maxxing out duty cycle. Another option is to grab a 99-01 fuel rail and run the motor returnless. There's a couple other steps for this if your interested...

Okay so what i have now is a return line plumbed to my tank already. So i should get a 98+ 4 cly pump installed? Whole assembly or just the pump.

I take it running the o.g pump at 65psi is to much for the 96 5.0 42psi fuel Pressure regulator

I have a 97 ranger that I did a 302 swap on from an 89 mustang GT. For the fuel pump, I used a 255 pump that I had in my 98 cobra. What I did was pull the the stock pump assembly out of the tank and disconnect the actual electrical portion of the pump. (the silver cylinder). I pulled the cylinder off the 255 cobra pump assembly and wired it to the ranger's existing wires, cut the basket a little to fit the cylinder, dropped it in the tank. Haven't had any problems with fuel at all. Hope this helps.

No, its not. That's the regulators job, the pump delivers the fuel to the engine, any excess is returned to the tank...
