So does the escape throttle body work or not? There are about 100 of them at my local pull- a-part so i can get one cheap.

I have to replace a 3.0 motor in a windstar next week and I've noticed it has aluminum heads.... wonder how they flow compared to ranger cast iron heads... might have to pay the core charge out of pocket if they are not damaged and do some measuring!!!

If it's got aluminum heads, that sounds like a 3.8.

Your probably right the service writer said it was 3.0 and he is kinda a dunce. I just have to inspect crate motors for shipping damage when they come in and saw the heads and got excited...

the grey-t escape
Why not buy a production vehicle in the first place that already has the power you want and engineered by qualified engineers who know what their doing?
Whats the fun in that?

I have to echo that this thread is both informative on SO many levels while providing a great deal of entertainment. True value for a forum topic! Like some of you, I'm torn between an engine swap and giving some of these ideas some thought. The engine does breathe like an old man with emphysema an don't start with the " I have emphysema crap" It's just a metaphor

Ok, lets get back on topic. Are there any other factory parts that swap onto the 3.0 tgat are an upgrade? Intake manifolds, heads, exhaust ect? I have a pull a part near me full of escapes, explorers & taurus's.

if only a 3.0 dohc escape engine could be swapped in, I have a 2011 escape, gear ratio somewhere near 3.55’s (can’t remember exactly, but its close to that) Anyways, the duratech dohc “escape” engine has really impressed me, it tows good, plenty of power, very reasonable fuel economy. The best thing for a ranger 3.0 is lower gears, get the rpms up as that engine makes its power fairly high in the rpm band. Below 3,000 it just isnt going to have much to offer.

Not really. Vulcan's didn't share much with any other Ford engines. You can mix/match different years of upper intake manifolds if you prefer aluminum vs plastic (this may require switching the lower intakes too, or drilling/tapping the bolt holes). Technically, flex fuel Vulcans should have slightly smaller combustion chambers (small compression bump) in their cylinder heads, but that went away eventually, and they all used the same heads.
