2.9L tranny vs 4.0L tranny

i no it has probably already been discused thousands of times but my 2.9L arld tranny is leeking and over heates and i can get a free auto tranny out of a explorer but its a 4.0L tranny. will this fit or is there a adaptor, i would like to no what mods i would have to do to make it fit. thanks

The shifter tang comming out of the trans will be different. Not sure if you can swap your 88 one to the explorer trans or not.

Only thing I can think of.

Solid Axle Swap 4x4
It should work just fine. Just compare electrical connector-- should be 3 terminal and the shift lever. If all the same, it'll swap just fine.
