this may be a dumb question, but will I have to drain the oil to replace the fuel pump or will I be able to just swap it without draining. ( just did an oil change less than 500 miles)

2.8 lima?

the limas did have a mechanical pump the first year or two iirc...

the v6 cologne had one as well. it is a bit tricky as i recall to do... but you dont have to dump the oil from memory....

I wouldnt see any reason at all to change the oil to do a mechanical pump. Ive done tons of them and never did that

There’s no need to drain the oil, you won’t lose any.

A gear wrench is your friend for this project.

Iirc, the one time that I removed a 2.8 fuel pump, I needed 2 swivels to get to the damn bolts.

Like just about everything on these RBV's you need to be quadruple jointed, along with your tools to get to a lot of stuff.

No need to drain the oil, they leak it enough on their own, but the fuel pump sits up on the block high enough that it doesn't interfere with the oil level in the oil pan...that is unless the diaphragm ruptured internally and dumped a bunch of fuel into the oil giving you an over-filled condition, but doubtful.
