I need to replace my passenger side rear axle shaft and I am kind of confused on if I have a 31 or 28 spline.

2001 Ford Ranger Edge, 4.0, 4x4, 4.10
Axle code is (s333w, 10 88 OL 10)

Any help would be great!

Yep, all Rangers except the uplevel FX4 models with the Torsen limited slip are 28 spline.

Ok, but mine does have limited slip. Does this make a difference? Some store have said that it is 31 spline. I had to replace the seal before and the seal that worked was 8660S (national). The only reason is I dont want to buy the wrong one and pull the shaft to find out I have the wrong one.

Is it the TORSEN limited slip? I'm thinking it isn't, since they didn't come out with that until the '02 model year (and only on the FX4).

Surest way to tell though is to measure the axle tube diameter right next to the leaf spring perch.

2.75" = 28 spline.
3.25" = 31 spline.
