I bought a 1991 Ford Ranger std cab 4x4 5 speed. I got a code for 22 (MAP) however do not find a map sensor or plug in on harness. I do have the mount on cowl (where my parts truck has one) After doing some inspection, I noticed the ECU was E9TF. Truck was built 08/90. I believe I have the wrong ecu for the truck. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I did a google search, it comes up with 5.0 computers but it also came up with a 1989 ranger. How many flashes or indications did you get when you first pulled the codes? That gives you a indication how many cylinders the computer is programmed for. 2 flashes, is a 4 cyl, 3 is a 6 cyl, and 4 is a 8 cyl.

Most all engines those years used a MAP sensor.

The 2.3L switched to MAF in mid '90 model year so roughly around '90 (my '90 had a MAP sensor but was built in '89), I think it's similar to when the 2.9L switched to MAF as well.

With an E9 it's probably the wrong ECM, you're likely going to want a '90-92 ECM for it to work right.

that is what I figured, not sure the differences besides the manual vs auto. figure look for f0 or f1 ecu

Those all look to be V6, price is reasonable...

I'd say you could borrow the one from the '92 I have in the yard but it doesn't run and I have a feeling it's that... I'd offer to check the junkyard by work but it's empty for winter (it floods, they just started emptying it yearly a couple years ago...)

You're in the 4 cylinder section so I knew :), some people just look at current active threads so it isn't always obvious...

I looked at his signature :)
ok, ya got me there... :) I've been bitten there before then I realize I'm one of those people that has 3 rangers on the property, 3 explorers, an F350, two Camry's and an old F Super Duty... sometimes ya gotta make it obvious what you're working on lol

yeah, I have 2 std cab 4x4 4 cyl rangers (one is parts rig) and 89 ext cab 2.9 4x4 daily

This is weird to me. My 91 4.0 harness has a MAF and a MAP. The map is just left open to air as an atmospheric pressure sensor. Now I actually wonder if that could be related to my cold engine stumble on take off when outside temps are below freezing. I had completely forgotten about that. I used the "new" MAP from the 2.9...

???. MAP means MANIFOLD absolute pressure sensor. That would be strange for it to measure atmospheric pressure.
