Would you buy this for a DD? (could also use a carfax)


Its actually not THAT big of a difference. Plus all of the crew cabs you find will have that 5.5 ft midget bed. That doesn't work imo because I work out of my trucks. Plus throw in a tool box and you're down to 3.5 ft of bed length.

They worked just fine for me. My old man never put's toolboxes in the bed. He had an 06 F150 XL ext cab long bed before he got the crew cab short bed. I can tell you from experience there is a world of difference. It was cramped as hell sitting in the back seat of the ext cab but you can sit comfortably in the crew cab. As for the bed, we used the 06 do to a lot of home improvement projects and beat the shit out of the truck. When we finished everything he traded it for an 08 XLT. Here's what it looks like:

My biggest concern is can I fit a 7 foot fishing pole in the bed without bending it (and I WILL be bringing one with me to make sure) :icon_twisted:

I get by just fine with a 6 foot bed right now, I don't think losing the other 4" is going to kill me.

I can fit my 8' pole in my 6.5' bed without bending it, it has to be diagonally though. Sometime around that same time period they made the 6.5' bed an option for the Supercrews too.

Screw vs Scab, if you haul passengers they will be very gratefull for the extra space... although having a small cab sometimes means someone else is more willing to drive than cram themselves in the back, and burn their gas.:D

I mainly use my extended cab to keep my bow and long guns in the back and out of plain view/weather.

Its been a while since I was in school but if I remember correctly width(2) + length(2) = diagonal length(2). Let (2) resemble a squared symbol. So, the dimensions off of Ford's website for the 2009's 5.5' bed is 67 inches long by 50 inches wide. So 67(2) + 50(2) = 83.6(2)
or 4489 + 2500 = 6989. 83.6 is rounded to the nearest tenth. Divide 83.6 by 12 to get the diagonal measurement in feet and it is 6.966 feet. So, the measurement is just a hair under 7 feet, it may fit, assuming the dimensions are the same for the previous generation of F150s but it will be a very tight fit. First time I've found a practical use for algebra in the 7 years its been since I took it. I would opt for the larger bed, unless you carry passengers enough to justify the crew cab (I've sat in the back of a 2007 F150 extended cab and thought it was perfectly comfortable, however I am only 5' 6". Still had room to stretch out though).

Edit: I would really try to find out the extent of the deer damage. It can range from a broken turn signal to slight frame damage. If its the former don't worry about it. If its the latter move on.

I have only ever seen one crew cab with the 6.5' bed. I could care less if people ride in my back seat. I gladly take the s/c with the 6.5' bed in my f150. As far as I'm concerned a truck is for work and with a 5.5' bed you cant haul much which is what a truck is made for. Just my .02:icon_thumby:

Eh, I beg to differ. I've hauled quikrete, concrete slabs, a pallet of brick. All the stuff I did with the long bed would easily fit in the short bed.

But not as much as I can in my 6.5' bed :D I'm a construction contractor so my bed gets used quite often.

It depends on what you do, my dad's 9' long livestock rack would look pretty goofy in your "short" box. I doubt cattle would be impressed if you cut it down to fit either.

The 6.5" bed Screws are a pretty new thing, in the last 2 or 3 years so it isn't surpising that there are not many out there yet. If you want want, you can find them.

Crew cab GMC was sold today, so that's out of the question. There was a nice 04 Chevy 1500 crew cab for I think $14000, but it has 104,000 miles on it, I'd like something with about half that in miles if I had a choice.


The accident that was reported on the F150 is supposed to be a car backing into it in a parking lot, there was a small scratch on the front bumper. It was marked at $17990 vs the $18900 that it is listed at online.

Quick question, it says lowest price $17990. Will they go lower or are they going to be stubborn about it? Sounds a bit scamish to me, "yeah, this is as low as we can possibly go on these vehicles", but I'm not sure on that. Also how much off are dealerships usually from KBB value on trade ins?
 
Play hardball. Offer them close to what they want for it and if they say no then just get up and leave. Chances are they going to ask you to sit back down and work something out.
 
I agree. Make a reasonable offer that will make you happy. If they don't bite, leave your number and leave. They probably won't let you out the door. If they do, they might call you soon. You can always go back and offer more if you want later. And if it sells there are always more trucks.

It's a pretty one for sure. Sometimes I really wish my Ranger had 4WD (we get plenty of snow each year).
 
Ok I changed my plans for a truck I think. I am now looking at a bit older truck, 97-98 or so, and am going to keep my Ranger. I owe about 800 on the Ranger, I'd hate to pay it off then get rid of it right away, it runs good and gets good gas mileage.

It's in pretty good condition, I'd get the box and body (up to the first body line) coated with Line-X so the little spot with no paint above the tailpipe is no concern. What I'm thinking is if I get a newer truck with a really nice body, I'm not going to want to take it out in the woods hunting and scratch it at all. A bit older and cheaper, I won't care that much. I'm thinking of offering them $5000 for it tomorrow if it seems good when I take it for a test drive, they weren't open today when I looked but everything seemed good visually, frame didn't look bad, shocks were alright, just a few minor scratches.

Nice. That's one of my favorite body styles on the Chevys and GMC's.
 
I think its a shame GM stopped making 350s. I've seen K1500s of similar vintage with 400,000 miles on the original engine (don't know if anything else was original). If you can get a good deal on it I don't see a reason why not.
