Wont engage in 4 low

My 1986 ford ranger 2.9 4wd Wont engage in 4 low when i put it in 4wd. Anyone know what it can be?

if its manual Tcase might just have some stiff linkage...spary linkage down with some kind of lube/pentitrating spray and work it back and forth. should free up

if it is electronic Tcaseit might have a bad motor to shift the T case or poor connection to it

engine off!!! block the wheels!!

You'll have to be under the truck...locate the T case...then maybe with a help of a friend trying to move the Tcase selector lever you be able to seee which lever are being or trying to move. Spray /lubercate all hinge points.

work it back and forth abit and should loose/ free up

you might even be able to see if something is disconnected or binding.

ya can do this from to top too but you'll have to take the shift boot off
