Hello and good day,

Does anyone know what these plug jacks are for? On the front my '99 Ranger behind the bumper are two jacks, one to the left and one to the right. The plug jacks are round and go to nothing. I was assuming that they must go to the fog lights, an option which apparently was not ordered on this truck. It's never had fog lights. Would this be what the plug jacks are for?

I did some searches for adding fog lights to the truck. However, all of the wiring harnesses to fog lights I have found show to have a rounded rectangular jack on them. I know one end would go to the fog light itself but the other ends do not match my existing jacks.

Perhaps these jacks are not for fog lights. I simply thought it was a fair guess at what they are for. Do you know? If they are for fog lights, where might I find the wiring harness from the light to wherever it goes, such as these jacks? I can get the lights most anywhere.

See attached photos. Thanks much for any info or suggestions.

are the front ABS cables hooked up to the steering knuckles?

Thanks for your reply. I don't think it has ABS brakes. Nope, no cables or wires to the steering knuckle. It has power front disc and rear drum brakes. I thought only the 4 x 4 had the anti-lock brake system. Mine's 2 wheel drive.

In 1999 4WABS was an option on any Ranger

But don't think its for ABS or Fog lights those are both 2 wire devices

Found this image of a Ranger front bumper impact sensor: https://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/wl2/SU15994/image/2/

There should be one on each side of front bumper, the connector looks similar
These activate the airbags in a collision

These are often not replaced($500+ each) when there was an accident and then repair

But I would expect Airbag or SRS light to be on if they are missing

^^^^That's what I was thinking, Air Bag activation sensors that mount on the radiator support......

Thanks guys. I do have airbags, don't know about the sensors, I haven't looked real hard at that but I do have dual airbags with a key switch to turn off the passenger side under the dash.

I checked your link, RonD and that looks to have a female connector. The jacks in question have the same, a female connector so it wouldn't plug up but it does look the same as if that could be what my jacks are for.
