Which manual trans fits/works best in a Bronco II?

I'd rather not do the body lift if it's not absolutely necessary. What will have to be modified for clearance? I have an excellent sheet metal guy that can replace whatever I have to cut out. I really like the stock height and look.

Of you don't need a trans that has overdrive, next best in my book is the np435. Granny low first gear and and tough. Heavy but i don't see me breaking mine. If you don't need a low first great like that, maybe a t18.

it depend's alittle on your tran's crossmember and the model of trans you use , but generally the main point of clearance issue's is getting the bellhousing to clear the weld flange on the firewall , you can bend the flange over to give some extra clearance and if needed reshape the firewall flange area to work

I know a guy that just put a zf in his ranger behind his 302 but not sure if he has a body lift or not.

Ill be putting in a M5OD-R2 from an 02 v6 f150 in the next week or so, ill let you know it goes if you want to use the same transmission.

I've watched this for a while now, some use of the search will go a long way. A mild BII, little offroading, and street friendly. You want an M5OD-R2. It's going to be pretty much your only option as far as 5 speed, easy to find and fit. I used to run a ZF5 in mine, I liked; granted it was 90% offroad. They are getting kinda hard to find and aren't all that cheap anymore. I sold mine last year for more than what I bought it for and had used it for 8 years. I has to be from a 351 powered F250/350. You will need a body lift to use it, or cut most of the floor. The T18/19 are pretty much the same in my book, both 4 speeds only real major difference is the 19 has a sycro 1st and most have a higher 1st but the HD ones will have the 6.32 1st like the 18. Np435 is overall pretty much the same. That's pretty much the options for manuals, all use the same pattern t-case and the NP205 (stongest) or the 208 will be the best fits some will use the newer BW1356 and it's much larger.

Here's a pic another member had, a ZF beside a V8 M5OD

I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes. If you have time to take pics of any modifications to the fire wall, crossmember, etc. that would be great. What transfer case are you using?

The ZF has the PTO covers on it, its the one on the right or top one ion the picture.

Ill let you know how it sits in there, i am using a BW4406 i got from the same truck for now. I do have a body lift so my results may be a bit different.

I know this thread is about a month old, but here is a pic of the v m5od-r2 in my truck. In the pic my engine is pushed all the way against the firewall, so where the shifter is, move it forward about 2-3 inches and thats where it should be when i am done. Hope this helps a little. Also the tranny would not fit well without the 3" body lift i put on.

Better late than never! I've been checking back every few days. So obviously you will have to open up the floor for the shifter. Where would the clearance issue be without the body lift? I have my motor already so I just have to decide which trans and weather or not to stay fuel injected and then i'll get started. What motor and mounts did you use?

If I didn't have a body lift, I would have needed to massage the firewall to get it to fit. Would deffinetly need to flatten the body seam without a body lift. Also I am using the fox mustang mounts. I haven't for much further on the truck winch I posted that. Hope this helps.

Sent from, wait how did this get here?
