1985 2.8 manual trans

So my current 5 speed is one is out of a bronco II that has a dummy case. My 2.8 is 4x2 and I’d like to install the correct 2wd 5 speed, which one will bolt up to my 2.8 engine?

2.8, 2.9, and 4.0 have the same bell housing. so you can swap a transmission from any of those. most common would probably be the m5od transmission, but the other challenge is to find one. just gotta check if the crossmember will be in a different location or not. out of curiosity, why do you want to swap it out for a true 2x4 transmission?
