I've been reading up on what spark plugs to buy for a tune up on a 1994 4.0l ranger. The consensus seems to be the motorcraft double platinums, but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them. If anyone can send me in the right direction that'd be great. Also is there any brand for the spark plug wires that people like?

The 94 isn't a wasted spark system to my knowledge, is it? So the double platinum's might be overkill.. On the later SOHC 4.0 you have one cylinder bank firing the plug the traditional way, but the other bank fires from the bottom electrode to the top.. That's why the double plats are recommended in that engine.

But here ya go anyway: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1994,ranger,4.0l+v6,1137989,ignition,spark+plug,7212

I buy mine from the NAPA store 1.5 miles from where I live. But, Vato Zone, Advance Auto and Slo'Reilly's should all have them.

If it doesn't have a distributor it's waste spark.

I stand corrected, but do all wasted spark systems fire one bank in reverse?? That's the question..

Yup. That's the "waste" of the waste spark. One bank fires from electrode to ground on the compression stroke while the other side fires from ground to electrode (the waste side) on the exhaust stroke. All ford distributor-less ignition systems work this way. They only use one coil per every two cylinders so one cylinder always gets a normal spark, and one gets a normal spark and a waste spark. The only systems that don't operate this way are modern coil on plug ignitions since each cylinder gets its own coil.

Doesn't waste spark refer to cylinders being fired on the exhaust stroke?

Yup... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasted_spark

Yep that's what I done did just did say I did.
