hi, I've pulled my heads on my 2.9l cologne and am thinking about pulling the engine to change out the oil pump. I don't have a hoist yet so just picturing this out in my head. Now that the heads are off where do I hook the hoist chains to on the rest of the block? And is it easy to disengage the rear of the engine where the flywheel and clutch are. First time. Thank you!

Take two of your old head bolts, thread on in on the passenger front outer corner, the other on the driver's rear outer corner. Those are your attachment points.

Probably best to thread them through the links of your chain.

Ok, that sounds like a plan. thanks! How complicated is disengaging the rear-end? Just remove the bolts around the flywheel housing? Thank a bunch!!

Easier said than done but yes remove all the bell housing bolts and the dust plate on the bottom front of the bell housing. While you have the engine out would be a good time to replace all the gaskets and seals you can get to. Also check/replace the timing chain and sprockets?

Oh yea if there is any sign of coolant out the weep hole on the water pump replace it as well. Murphys law applys whenever you pull a motor.

I just helped my brother pull the engine on his 1992 Pontiac Firebird and he forgot to remove a ground wire and bent part of the fender...
