There has been times when i thought it would be neat to go to a trs event but only if there are close by to where i live here in washington state.

This. The western PA guys get together once in awhile here. It’s informal except when Jim is around. I try to hit up some car shows and wear my TRS gear. I know JohnnyO does that too. There used to be some off-road groups around here that I used to run with.

Not much over here in the northwest for whatever reason, never has been, way back in the day there were a handful of offroad types but not many and more toward Seattle...

I know there has been talk about getting out west somewhere. Personally, I’m not in a position to get out there yet, but I’d like to. Maybe in a couple years…

That's pretty much how I feel about going east :), I'd love to load up the truck and camper and head over to Moab or Glamis or somewhere cool but I wouldn't want to trust driving the '90 (not that it wouldn't make it but it would suck to be 1500 miles from home and get stuck) but my current tow rig needs some work before I could do that either...

For a regional or local meet, the best thing to do is just organize one and invite others in the area to attend. Don't be upset or feel insulted if only two or three show up. Money and free time is often an issue. The last Southwestern PA meet we had, there were a couple more that could have showed up but didn't. I'm sure it wasn't personal. They just weren't able to make it work.

A national one is normally set by Jim and he tries to pick somewhere more or less central to everyone. Tough to do in such a big country. Invariably, someone is going to have a very long drive. Often times, it's Jim who has the longest drive.

i'd love to go to more shows, but free time like was stated already is a problem. I work 50+ hours a week and run with 2 local fire departments. any free time i have i spend with my wife. Plus I don't like to take the ranger on long trips, its not that i don't trust it, it gets a little uncomfortable after a while with it being a regular cab

Bring the wife.

Define "long". I'm preparing to drive my regular cab from SC to Colorado and back with a week of dirt road exploring in between.

No excuses.

Something to think about if you have the budget to do so... if the national TRS event is far away, fly to it and rent a car. if it is 4x4 stuff and you want to do a trail, hitch a ride with a member. I did some of that last year as my Ranger was down for brake issues and it took my car. the car did just fine for most of the stuff but the Turkey Bay excursion was a bit beyond its capabilities.

for the 20th anniversary, I know of one member that flew in and rented a car and camped with us and road with another member, I have had a few members ride with me as well.

another option, put aside some money and add to the pile every payday until you get enough to make a drive to one of the more eastern events. Camping will be much cheaper on the budget, and you will have your truck. just take into account the days needed to travel both to and from in your vacation request. I would also see if you can convince a good friend/ family member to travel with you, just to keep safe and have someone to enjoy the trip with. if it is another TRS member local to you or near local, do a caravan with each other.

All depends on what you are comfortable doing and can afford.

I would love to do a western trail ride/ camp out, but finances are a bit tough right now and time to do so is a bit short :( but eventually i will do so.

Finances are really all that's holding me back right now. We're doing layoffs at work. (Pretty sure I'm in the clear.) Supposedly we'll be back to full time+ by September. I hope so. I would really like to save about for $3000 for truck work. Need about $900 just for tires after getting it lifted and that won't work well without gears...

That said, if I do get the hours later this year, I'd be up for a trip out to at least the middle of the country next year. At least that's the goal right now.
