Perhaps I have a new testament to my Craigslist Bible. On Facebook marketplace today I found eight brandy new 1000# easy ride double-eye 3-leaf springs. They’re like the overkill golf cart/hunting buggy springs. I got all eight for $60.

There’s no telling what kind of useless-but-cool harebrained contraption scheme I can come up with for these things, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to get that other set of 4 inch aluminum channel beams when the guy has them pulled.

I also found three 20’ 4”-aluminum I-beams for little money, but even I’m stumped with what I would do with them….

The man called me, and the other set of 4 inch aluminum channel beams are now available. I’ll head over there Monday or Tuesday to pick them up. $150

This picture is of the original set that had a slight bend on one of the four-inch channels. And they’re all 22 feet long, not 20. The new set is supposed to be near perfect.

I have two definite visions, but nothing solid in the works yet. Always depends on what complementary crap I can find on craigslist and such.

The shame is that if I had known about these before I built The Road Ranger’s trailer, I would’ve made the whole trailer out of aluminum. Or maybe I could build a second one!

I made plans to attend Commonwealth 4x4/ Coddiwopple Overland's meet and greet next weekend. They are doing a trail ride a Daniel Boone National Forest. Actually getting to preview a new trail the are opening.

Tonight I made an air tool rack for the shop, was tired of those bulky things taking up room. Used some scrap perlin or whatever material my brother ended up with cheap at an auction, sheet metal with a reasonable hook lip just had to drill holes and take the angle grinder with cutoff wheel to make slots... made 18 slots in the ~36" long piece which was conveniently enough for all of the air stuff I found quick...

After I got in I was leafing through the latest Summit catalog and they had one that held 15 and 24" wide for $35 but whatever, this was free other than maybe 45 minutes of time and a cutoff wheel got consumed... I installed it with a level so it is indeed flat, I was apparently not for the pic . If it helps anyone that wants to make their own, for the cheap HFT air fittings the notch needs to be just a hair over 5/16" so I went with the next size bigger drill bit then cut in with the angle grinder from there, I used 2" spacing which could be a little tighter... My plan is to take a scrap of an innertube and make a flap over the open vertical holes to help keep grit out...

I went to my local car wash, and i was going to wax the Ranger today, the temps were awesome here in the east coast. My neighbor grabbed my parking spot so I'm not in a hurry to wax it yet.. Ughhhh.

The car wash I go to here is $22 a month and you can go unlimited times in the month. Sometimes twice a day if needed. They bill your credit card monthly and you go thru the car wash without any waiting, it has a metal strip sticker you put on your windshield that activates the gate automatically. No brainer all around.

Started the (rather annoying) process of replacing the valve cover gasket on the 96.. during which I swore a bunch and got covered in grease.

Upside though... nothing stripped, snapped, or needed to be sacrificed.. didn't break any electrical connectors.. and the valve cover doesn't need immideate replacement like I thought it might. Gonna channel my inner @Rick W and spray that mutha' with some rustoleum after a quick wire wheeling lol.


*disclaimer: I might not actually use rustoleum.. probably gonna reach for the cheapest, nicest colored can of enamel they have at the hardware store.... actually.... if I'm gonna channel my inner rick.. I should probably go to the local surplus/Salvage store.. they always have tons of paint

It took me a long time to finally find one for that side, as they are rare to find, at least for me..... The one I got was on eBay, it needed some cleaning and sanding. I used 3 coats of Rust-Oleum primer and 2 coats of Blue Ford Paint. Came out nice, I did this replacement about 2 years ago I think.

Oh yeah.. I'm relatively sure I remember you asking where to find one now that I think about it lol. Definitely the first time I've ever heard about a valve cover rotting through.
