There’s a local bar here that claims to have the best wings for like 10+ years running… they are terrible… every year there’s a local wing cook-off and every year they somehow get voted “best” but I certainly wouldn’t get wings there again. I don’t know who decides these things.

A TV or a radio station. Viewers or reader do an online survery and those are the results, if they are honest about it.

I think that’s the problem, too often it’s not an honest thing… that’s the only thing that makes sense

I don’t know why Five Guys gets bashed on. Maybe it’s different in other places. Around here, all of the ones I’ve been to had a great burger and fries. And for not much more expense than a McSawdust if you’re not ordering off the value menu.

Their food is decent but the last time I went there it cost me $38 for two burgers, two orders of fries & two drinks. I'm not sure how it even happened.

Yes, Five Guys. They left such a poor impression on me that I forgot their correct name.

While we're on this topic, what is it with the "voted best" and the really popular places people go nuts over like In-N-Out Burger? I think every one of them is extremely overrated, yet there is a line of people waiting to buy mediocre hamburgers with fake cheese on them.

In-N-Out is OK, I had to go there while I was in Phoenix last year just to say that I did... don't think I'd make a point to go back there though.

Culvers or Hardees is way better and cheaper than any of those upper class fast food places.

That is a little more than around here for expense.

Never been to an In-N-Out because there’s none around here.

Hardees around here is about the same price and grade as BK or Wendy’s, which is better than a McSawdust. Some of the BK and Wendy’s around here do a better job than others. If I’m grabbing fast food anymore, it’s an Arby’s if there’s one handy.

2 ciggies, a cup of coffee and some vicodin, now that's my breakfast!

When I had my Wisdom teeth pulled (chiseled) out.. all 4 at once.. they gave me a weeks worth of Vicodin. First and only time I've taken more than an Advil or whatever. I very much needed it.. but damn.. took that stuff exactly as it said to on the bottle and that was the absolute worst week of work in my life lol. Useless.. absolutely useless... Near on drooling as far as I can remember.

I don't understand how people like doing painkillers for fun.. that shit was awful 😖

for me between that and back surgery pain killers are good for nothing but extreme nausea.

back on topic

cheese burgers rule :yahoo:

there are no bad cheese burgers, but some are much better than others

Same here, make it two waters and add a hotdog and we were crowding $50.

personally id rather go to texas roadhouse for that kinda $$

Stawp... I just gained 5lbs thinking about Texas Roadhouse.

I love that place.

Mmmmmm buuuuuurrrrgersssssss.....

The key I've found to enjoying mcdonalds burgers as of late is to get the single cheeseburgers with extra cheese.

It's still a crap burger.. yes.. and the extra cheese costs way too much.. but extra cheese is life so 🤗 I deal with it. We don't have nearly as many fast food places up here as some of you folks do in other parts of the country.. I always drool when I see sonic commercials.. Hardee's/Carl's Jr commercials used to be top notch lol.. they don't seem to hire the same talent for them that they used to though 😔 booooooo

We had a weird drive through IHOP for about a year, then it became a sonic for about a year, then it closed for awhile and I forget what it is now. It’s right up the hill from a Wendy’s and a Taco Bell and across from two “premium” gas station restaurant things we have around here, GetGo and American Natural. Out of all of those, it’s usually the Wendy’s if I’m feeling cheap and GetGo if I’m not.

We don't have Culvers or Hardees out here. In-N-Out is kind of a strange phenomenon here. They originated out of Southern California and didn't open any restaurants to the north until 1992. Yet, people will insist they were going to local In-N-Out restaurants since the 70s. And when you tell them there weren't any restaurants it becomes one of those weird things wherein people insist they are right. In-N-Out is OK, and only OK, if you are short on time and just want something to eat to keep you going. But, when you arrive there you will have to navigate around the queue of cars waiting for the drive-through, and when you get in the restaurant there will be a line almost out the door. When you get your food you there isn't anywhere to sit. So, I avoid it. What is really annoying is if you meet up with a group of people and someone suggests grabbing a bit to eat it seems like it is almost invariably going to be at In-N-Out. I just really don't understand it.

There is a chain I really like that originated from Northern California, and that is Black Bear Diner. We have about eight of them locally.

Oh man, black bear diner is really good. We had that for the first time two years ago in colorado and could only get it there. Now ine opened in brownsville texas so we can get it "locally" now.

Locally meaning only a 3 hour drive instead of 16

We both drove our escapes to the next town where gas is cheaper (2.75 vs 3.20) & filled them up, quite cold & windy here. Had 2” of snow by yesterday morning & it looks like its going to stick around for the next week at least with possibly more coming in tomorrow & monday.

Last night I was tinkering in the shop trying to make it usable again, I ended up making a shelf over the man door which I decided for now is where all the beer coozies are going to live... which cleared off one of the side cabinets of the tool box somewhat.

Making room let me get my welding cart over to the more open bay so I could work on the crane for the loft, drug out the sheet of 1/4" steel I've had for like 20 years that I found by the train tracks by my moms by the steel mill... it's bent up and rusty but I cut a 36" strip to span across 3 joists and cleaned it up with my surface conditioner and grinder. So far I plasma cut 4 square holes for 1/2" carriage bolts and have the post bolted on but am planning on welding it on too... I have a feeling a 16" by 36" sheet of 1/4" steel is a big enough foot print but am thinking of adding some more depth while it's easy.

Get some solid blocking between the joists under where that mounts and extend it to the adjacent joists, that way the load gets spread over 5 joists instead of 3
