What did YOU do today?

You’ve been gone a while. NJ stopped doing safety inspections 20 years ago. They only emissions inspect 1996 and newer light duty vehicles. It’s all through the OBD2 port, there’s no more tailpipe probe.

Mean while in the Land Before Time, everyone has to get an annual safety inspection and a good portion of the state has to get emissions tested. William Penn loves his tax money and only wants more of it, not less.

Which is strange… Normally NJ has higher taxes and laws 10 times as strict as any of the surrounding states.
We finally won one.

Today I went to the pull yard. They had recently taken in a 94 Splash 4.0 -- right up my alley. Got a rear flip out quarter window (a story for another time), a snorkel in great condition (seems they are hard to find, so now I have two extras), also got a MAF body and sensor, and a few other goodies. I was surprised that the PCM was still there, but it was 27-degrees and I wussed out. I may go back this weekend with the proper tools and extract that puppy along with the harness
The engine was pretty picked over.
There was another 94 with leather seats, but mine are in good shape and have the inflatable lumbar and side cushions, so I may not go thru the trouble and expense for the leather seating, they looked in great shape tho.

a snorkel in great condition
:icon_confused:

What exactly are you calling a snorkel? It may be a 4wd, but I can't exactly picture your truck going swimming deep enough to need what I think of as a snorkel.

They are good for off roading, other than that. The snorkel also helps with dust ingestion, allowing the air filter element to last longer, though you are correct. The snorkel did originally come about so that vehicles could traverse deeper water.

Sure, I was mostly trying to be funny with the swimming bit. His truck doesn't appear to have a snorkle at all and he mentions having two extras, so I'm wondering what part he's calling a snorkle.

Plastic intake tract that is so hard to find in good shape?

Sorry for the confusion. This air intake tube:

The pull yard calls it a snorkel.

I laid flat on my back until I got enough courage to get out of bed with two broken ribs. Ate a burrito for breakfast. Ate some acetaminophen and had come coffee. After some time I couldn't just sit in the house. So, I decided I would go to Trader Joe's and get something to eat around lunch time. I had lunch at some burger joint called Five Boys. They claim they were voted the best hamburger in Sacramento. Anyone could grill a better burger than Five Boys. As I was driving around I decided to go into Lowe's just to wander around the store walking like a robot because my ribs hurt. I ended up buying a toobox set that was half price due to having about three scratches. So, they helped me load it up into the back of the Ranger. When I got home I stood along side the truck wondering how I was going to get them out of there with busted ribs. I ended up taking the drawers out to reduce weight and it wasn't so bad getting it out. Getting out and walking around helped reduce the pain in my ribs, but I had a few people ask me if I was OK because I was walking like a robot. Anyway, after I got the toolbox rolled into the garage I fed the cats and sat down in the recliner after eating more acetaminophen.

2 ciggies, a cup of coffee and some vicodin, now that's my breakfast!

Congrats on doing that much Bill. If I were in your position I'd have probably been headed right back to bed after that breakfast and there wouldn't have been any going out for lunch.

Five Guys? If so we've got one here too. I'd pretty much agree with your assessment. I've been a grand total of twice in the years that they've been open and the second wasn't my choice.

Got 2” of snow overnight, not really necessary but I got the tractor out & scraped the driveway. Its having a carburetor issue, great time for that- ran fine in late october when it was last used.

I don’t know why Five Guys gets bashed on. Maybe it’s different in other places. Around here, all of the ones I’ve been to had a great burger and fries. And for not much more expense than a McSawdust if you’re not ordering off the value menu.

Yes, Five Guys. They left such a poor impression on me that I forgot their correct name.

While we're on this topic, what is it with the "voted best" and the really popular places people go nuts over like In-N-Out Burger? I think every one of them is extremely overrated, yet there is a line of people waiting to buy mediocre hamburgers with fake cheese on them.

There’s a local bar here that claims to have the best wings for like 10+ years running… they are terrible… every year there’s a local wing cook-off and every year they somehow get voted “best” but I certainly wouldn’t get wings there again. I don’t know who decides these things. Guess it’s how much you bribe the judges. There’s a local diner that claims the “best” breakfast and lunch but it’s almost cafeteria food, the diner a couple miles south of them uses all farm fresh stuff and is amazing, but they didn’t get voted “best”
