What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

making a half a$$ed attempt to find the coolant disappearing act. If I drive it for 45 minutes (Anderson to Fishers or Noblesville) I will lose 4 to 5 inches of coolant from the radiator. no noticeable leaks. no puddles on the driveway after driving. so I figure maybe the radiator cap is weak. new radiator cap didn't really change things. Also noticed that the level in the reservoir never changed. so while the radiator might be down a few inches, the reservoir still was at full cold.

decided that the 28 year old rubber line from the radiator cap to the reservoir might be the culprit. unhooked it and snaked it down to the underside so that the reservoir could drain into a cup. got maybe a few teaspoons. yanked the hose off the reservoir itself and it drained just fine all over my driveway. washed the coolant off the driveway and went and got a new hose. so for 15 bucks for a radiator cap and 13 bucks for 3 foot of hose, I hope that is the issue.

it was getting dark, so it is now back together and I will see tomorrow if the problem is gone.

That's plausible for sure but for that price for hose I'm assuming you got like fuel injection hose or something... for future you can use the cheap clear nylon hose...

the thing that really sucked is that hose was specifically for the radiator to overflow. and while it was a cheap black nylon hose. 3 foot. Autozone is really getting expensive. the only real advantage is the "I have the part that day".

Dang, the new world sucks... last time I went to buy the cheap clear hose at a hardware store they just had pre packaged lengths instead of rolls... I wanted like 60' to make a water level, I don't remember how much I ended up with but probably 50'... not enough to go corner to corner.

cleaned out the birds and piss d off bees.....and blew out the cobwebs

Making progress on the 385 - Valve lash done, stud girdle and valve covers on. Tomorrow we'll do intake and oil pan. Not far away from going in the truck now......

Replaced the rear axle bearings, seals, and shafts to solve a failed seal and a chewed up shaft on my supercharged truck. Hopefully I don't need to mess with it again for a while.

And yes, my scrap bin is a scrapyard picked shopping cart, haha.

A little more progress on the 385 this AM - Super Victor intake and big weird oil pan installed. Also wire brushed the rusty Fluidampner enough to bring out the timing marks and welded up a leak in a header tube. Paint is next to cover up the 11 years of sitting under the bench in my brother's shop.

How many miles on the original parts you just replaced?

Axle is not original to truck, I think they had about 300k on them, I've put about 120k on it and my friend put about 180k ish on it before I grabbed it.
