What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

That plug doesn't look burned to me. Looks like a stock iridium, but I have been told that I'm blind...

I got my 1354 in. Kinda. It's assembled and working but I can't shift to 4Low.

Dad’s 99 Ranger got the bumper put back on and the drivers side front brakes tore apart but I need some bolts because of rust.

Also got the wipers fixed on the Choptop finally. Stupid rust…

Black Magic'd my tires (never used it before, pretty conservative application), and the state finally let me put my plates on :D (I picked this design because it's what Texas used in '94)

Celebrating 10 years of ownership.

Celebrated 48k yesterday....Inspired by this post I'll have to make some baked good to commemorate 50k 👍

Some paint/clearcoat correction. These wedge corners had the clearcoat flake off, so I sanded the remaining clearcoat off, put on two coats of Duplicolor G2, and three coats of clearcoat. This is after paint.

So… I think I found my vibration problem on the Choptop. 4 lug nuts on one back wheel were bottoming out (closed end nuts) just before the wheel actually got tight. I discovered loose lugs on the back and pulled out my new 24” breaker bar and socket and figured I’d tighten that right up until one of the nuts went from pretty tight to pretty loose and when I pulled the socket off I found it pushed the closed top of the nut right off. 5 open-end bulge seat lugs from Autozone and this is the best this rig has ever rode. I wonder just how long this has been a problem that I didn’t realize. I’ve had a motley collection of different lugs on it for years. The others all seem fine, just this one wheel had some a little short.

Used the '97 to jumpstart the '00 Explorer so I could use it to tow the boat for the test run...

Boat test run went good, had a couple new water leaks one from the sand trap being loose which was an easy fix, the other is the exhaust hose on one side is loose apparently, I'll probably move the clamp or add another but at least tighten all 4 of them... Other than that it started right up and ran better than it has and is way more solid since I welded everything up. Gained a tachometer for a solid 3 minutes of running until it quit again... will have to check on connections, also have a working oil pressure gauge now so that's nice. Lost the fuel gauge for some reason, will have to dig into that but it's going to be dumb...

I started putting my Torque Monster headers on but the drivers side touches the valve cover so I need to figure that out. Anyone ever run into that?

Had a '97 Escort wagon that, as it racked up miles, had a connector on the back of the instrument panel that liked to work loose, killing the fuel gauge in particular. I got good at disassembling the instrument panel to get to it to snap the connector back in place. You might have something similar with yours.

Bought a rotten Ranger plow truck two years ago. Mainly for the trans, transfer case other odds and ends,

Wanted to do this last year, but ran out of time, procrastinated this year so I just slapped it together. Looks like shit but keeps everything dry.

Well, I’m still getting a vibration between 60 and 70 mph in the Choptop so it now has all new lug nuts. I don’t think there was a problem with the others on the truck, but if there was, it should be fixed now. Hopefully I can now get back to working on the green Ranger.

That is completely valid but in this case it's likely just janky wiring... When I bought the boat the guy thought it had a 350, turns out it was a 351... not that I cared but that says something... when I test drove it before I bought it the guy didn't know about accelerator pumps on carburetors either, I mean I knew they're a thing so I wasn't much beyond him... when I got it the oil gauge would move sometimes but mostly like a switch like a Ranger so it was most likely wired to the safety switch not the gauge sender and for whatever reason the tach didn't work which didn't bother me... the boat has been reinvented a few times :)

In the next few days I'll dig around and see if I can find the wires for the gas gauge and reseat the wires for the tach see if it comes back... gotta get an engine box in and the lighter plug installed so I can get my powered cooler in there...

I drove the 97 to the cute little burette’s house and watched the alternator light flick on and off. I put a big alternator in it a couple thousand miles ago.
