What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Put a hitch receiver under the back. It's very hard to do with one shoulder unable to support weight. Had to use my knees and right hand to try and hold it in place while the dead left side just threaded the nuts on. I had jack stands on 4x4s holding the bumper in place.

I even found the instructions for the factory jack hidden in the jack cover

... Manuals
... original hard copy

Have you ever replaced the water pump?

My '92 f150 always had Luke warm at best coming from the heater. I rebuild the cooling system, replaced everything, radiator, hoses, water pump, ect, except the heater core. The heat was blasting that next winter, I think thr water pump was worn and didn't have much flow.
How many miles on the F-150 when you replaced the water pump?

it does say save the manuals. my youngest son got some when he and his brother had 325 bmw stick shift cars. my previous mid sized truck was stick too so he got me one, also. i think i have my be aware of cyclists on the front and the save the manuals on the back

I crawled underneath it to assess the task of changing the differential oil. I need to take a better look at when it isn't raining because the cover appears to have some pretty good rust on it and I need to determine if it is something I can clean off and paint, or if I need to get a new cover. No rust on anything else. This is California. Rust doesn't appear on anything other than brake rotors...............and, apparently, Ford's differential covers.

Most diff covers are fairly heavy. You should be able to sand off the rust, paint, and reuse.

I took mine off when I changed the diff fluid a few months back. No rust, fortunately, and it still had the factory black paint in good condition, but I also have the 8.8" rear. If you have the smaller 7.5" rear, there could be some difference in the cover thickness, I guess.

Got to go check on my red Ranger yesterday, hopefully I can get to bring it home next week. Not sure how fixable it is, but at least I’ll have a good engine and trans back.

I was driving my brothers Ranger to go get inspected now that we got the dash all back together and not check engine lights.

Honked the horn and the airbag light started going off.

Pulled the airbag out to check and it looked like someone had replaced the airbag at some point. The two wires going to the airbag had been cut, and then simply twisted back together and wrapped in about 5 rolls of electrical tape.

That will have to wait, I'll make my brother fix.

I'm trying to take advantage of the extra hour of light and temperatures finally above freezing. I have been sort of low in the motivation department lately and now I'm easing back into it. The engine swap runs and I quickly drove to the end of my driveway and back.

Here is a new battery tray I made since you can only get plastic junk at the parts store.

I didn't use Cardboard Aided Design and may have gone a little crazy with the welder... The bolts don't center nicely. The airbox and AC will still fit so I'm happy.

(I got a new phone finally so the pictures should be clearer from now on)

Loaded the 4 wheeler into the back of the '90 tonight to get ready to drive a few hours away to go wheeling in the sand this weekend... tomorrow I'll load the Ranger with 4 wheeler in the new to me trailer and hook it up to the F350 with camper on it... so that mess isn't out in the open for too long I put it in the shop (since I have a big locked area now...), put a piece of 1/2" PEX over the drivers door striker, then realized it's just a touch too big and couldn't get the door open easy so I started trimming on it... then while walking around noticed the rear drivers side shock bottom bolt was way loose, it's tight now...

Got around to installing the fender mount for the quad band antenna. Adjustment is maxed out and still leaves a little outward cant to the antenna but the chances of antenna strikes and damaging the antenna are reduced. So a win overall.
