A couple of cool Ford hood ornaments that were also functional.

looks like a ford gran torino hood ornament. i put a hood badge from a 60's? ford on my 94 ranger, not sure exactly the year it was used. but i think its cool looking.

That was for sure on a 1966 Ford FSeries. I rember dad's F100 having it. I'd suspect that entire generation had it. Whether the 1968-1973 did, I don't know.

Yes, I meant a Mack bulldog.

That truck looks badass. I’d been thinking about a bulldog on my ’92 since I got it, as well as the one that racscan mentioned below, once this thread started. That flat spot on the front of the hood is just screaming for something. Ranger runners must think alike. :icon_thumby:

That bulldog is ace.

When I was a kid in the '80s, it was normal for commercial vehicles over here to have some sort of kids toy wired to the front grill. No idea why, it didn't look good. A bit creepy, thinking in retrospect.

Yeah, that was common over here too. It still something you see from time to time, but not as much as you used to.

You ever see the movie "vacation" from a few years back? Kinda like a reboot of the "national lampoons" ones from the 80s? Well norman reedus (daryl from walking dead) is a truck driver in it, with a stuffed kids toy tied to the grille of his KW (IIRC, mighta been a freightshaker), either way, listen to his answer on why he has it there

Really they serve no purpose anyways. Except to crack heads that used to jack them for resale
They were used as a lane assist feature... Basically keep the ornament parallel to the lines on the road and you were going straight.. nothing insanely crazy but it worked...

Happened in Toy Story too.

As a little kid I asked dad what the point of the one was on his Chevy, he said it helped gauge where the passenger side (that would be the right side :icon_thumby:) tires were back when we had narrow curbed highways.

The rib on my first gen hood is pretty effective at the same thing, but it is more substantial than a GM's hood rib too. :dntknw:

when is the last time you drove thru west bye gawd virginia or podunk pa?....no curbs or even lines and usually missing lane...

i have almost lost my truck off those gawd for saken by-ways quite a few times the last few years.....love my hood rib....but...ugh...i am a bit wider then stock....slightly:D....a little...

Bobby frickin walter, was wonderin if you were still around.

I got rid of that colorado after 7 years, i couldnt stand it anymore. Sold it to a buddy who had it 2 weeks and totalled
it.

Actually i just bought another ranger, another 2.9 powered 2wd 1st gen that is damn near a carbon copy of rusty the original. Check out my threads:beer:

Never have. :icon_bounceblue:

About 3/4 of a mile from my house is a old highway with the curbs shaved that is about like driving in 1945 Berlin.

I fold the DS (left hand side :icon_thumby:) towing mirror in on my F-150, the road has earned a reputation for when two towing mirrored trucks meet. Not enough traffic to repave/widen, too much to gravel... so it it just kind of exists.

i have explode quite a few windows and mirrors that way.
