Welded Spiders?

As soon as I can get my hands on a welder , yeah I will post pics. I had a friend volunteer the use of his welder, but it's an old stick unit. I don't want all that slag and shit in my diff.

I have always used stick welders for this deed. Could have used a mig but I wouldn’t want to. With this its all about penetration. I use 6010 rod at a range of 160-120 amps depending on what pass I am doing. Just clean all the slag out well. At to do it right take the diff out of the axle and the ring gear off the carrier.

I just don't want to have to set up my ring and pinion again. Or, can I just put everything back together just the way it came out?

We pulled my carrier and welded it with a 110V wire feed. Just don't mix up the orientation of the bearing caps, and the bearing cups/shims, and you can slip it in/out no problem.

Clean it spotless with carb and then brake cleaner so you don't get contaminated welds.

Thanks for the info. I think it's getting done this weekend, before the snow flies so I can go play (I can't wait for snow).:clapping:
