want to get my ranger to 200hp... any suggestions?

cali and C.A.R.B. basically says you cant fart in public w/o it affecting the ozone, if this vehicle is in or a cali model then you cant mod it til you leave the state of cali. if its a cali model w/ all the extra evaporative emissions bs youll want to sell it and get a 49 state vehicle cuz even the heads are dif to make for dif emissions standards and dont even make the power the 49 state version does.

the heads are not different and everything has had evaportive emissions since the '70's.

there is only cali emissions and 49 state emissions on some vehicles. the 3.0 isnt one of them.

i stand corrected did not know 30s were not heavily regulated by cali like most other engines.

250HP or you can spend about a grand (at the most) on a turbo and have a perfectly street driveable vehicle that gets nearly the same economy it gets now....its up to you.

Sorry if this has been covered but I didnt find antything on it. How do you do a turbo on the 3.0 for around $1k?

you can ebay a used turbo and rebuild it or get a good deal on a good one somewhere, flip the factory exhaust manifolds and do the welding yourself and the oil line plumbing. intake work plumbing etc can be fabricated yourself then you go into the tuning portion and do some homework and see how much fuel you need for the hp number you want then price parts there. it is feasible you may go over 1k depending on the boost you want.

Do what I did, buy a Ford Lightning.

After having this beast, the Ranger sucks. It is now my bad weather, crappy road vehicle. At least it starts every time since I keep some Berryman's B-12 in every tank. I forgot one time and it refused to start the next morning. What a POS!

You want horsepower, buy a LIGHTNING! You won't regret it.

well, that doesnt solve the problem of wanting more power out of a 3.0 that just puts the problem off for another time

There's no replacement for displacement. That's what this boils down to, didn't have the money for a bigger engine now you think you know better than Ford Engineers. If you don't have the knowledge, or the equipment to test the changes that don't give you much gain anyway, be happy with what you've got. What's the hurry you can only go the posted speed limit?
