Twister 85 B2 Build

Why is advance adapters so expensive :dunno:. Off of summit, ordering their oil filter relocation kit would be around $92 shipped, but i can get the trans dapt kit, and their low pro block adapter for $85 shipped :icon_confused:

I just got the individual adaptors for like $10-15 apiece and then got the hose locally. It isn't cheap either but it still came out cheaper in the end and I could pick what filter base I wanted.

Be sure to get the 90 degree adaptor for the engine block.

I got alot of my parts from people here on TRS and alot of advice that had helped me save money and time too.

Good thing going for you is your engine came running and complete so that will save you time and money.

What kind of shop would be able to make me hoses? Sorry if that is a dumb question, new to idea of building key components.

Yeah i was thinking about getting this kit

And adding this block adapter

I would buy everying separate and get the hoses from a local farm store along with the fittings at thats what I am doing, came out to be cheaper in the end.

If you look in the tech library under one of the 5.0 swap articles, there is a kit that is cheaper, like $45 on summit for it, and has everything you should need. I think the name of it is hayden, it's in a picture in the article and the part number is in the picture too.

I just looked it up and it's the hayden kit, part number 291. A google search should find it for you and parts dealers such as summit selling it.

Found it

I might go with that, its much cheaper, and hydro hose couldn't be to expensive.

A truck or hydraulic shop should be able to make them if you want steel braided hydraulic hoses if you want to go that route. I did that at first and the hoses were so stiff they would unscrew and rescrew themselves into the block adaptor as the engine moved around.

I ended up just getting bulk 1/2" oil hose (not heater hose, it has to be rated for oil) and barb fittings with clamps. It wil probably take a some fiddling to get it how you want it, I am on my third try.

I used one of these:

And one of these:

It might not be the cheapest route but in the end I think I got a clean looking setup that won't leak:

We get about $4-$5/ft and $10-$15 per crimped on end. I don't think a hose clamp would smoosh it enough to hold it on a barb by itself. It is stiff stuff too, you have to get the fittings clocked on it just right because there isn't much give in twisting it. If you are just putting straight fittings on it it won't matter but if you need an elbow it gets really tricky.

This isn't the kind of thing Tractor Supply or a place like that would deal with, you will probably need to find a real farm shop that fixes things (even a dealer could set you up)

I do really like the looks of that Hayden kit, I searched high and low and couldn't dig up a front port base that would take an FL1A...

Now that I think and see that, I may go with the 90 degree hose adaptors for the oil filter mount.

Well the manifolds were a no go, the only mustang at u pull it had a I6 in it. If you would like to share that secret of the 289 manifolds send me a pm :icon_thumby:

I almost got a transfer case, but it didnt sound good shifting into gears, and the heat got to me

Im also told with the exploder FEAD, you have to notch one of the brackets to get the dizzy in.

I just put my dizzy in today, it fits but doesn't have but maybe an inch and a half of swing for the vacuum canister. I might have to cheat and rotate the wires around a click to time it but it will for sure go in. :icon_thumby:

Well i think i am going to just order the two trans dapt pieces for the filter relocation, and i am getting a pair of manifolds from 85_Ranger4x4 :icon_thumby:

If it's what you need and it's cheaper then do it, thats what I did.
