Twister 85 B2 Build

I don't think it would hurt a thing, I plan on doing the same thing one day. But be sure to run a folder before the pump. I run a clear filter before my carb. My filter on my pump didn't need replaced but it's recommended to change it every year anyways.

So I should run a filter before the pump, because I want going to?

Yes you want to. You would kick yourself for not putting cheap insurance like that behind the only thing feeding fuel to your engine that could leave you stranded.

Cheaper to replace a filter once a year (or sooner) then a pump every few months. I recommend a clear filter to see when it needs replaced.

Makes sense, guess I'll pic one up and a couple feet of fuel line and finish that off.

I liked the filter that came with the pump because then there were only two potential leak points on that side of the pump rather than six.

Nylon line to barb
Barb to hose
Hose to filter
Filter to hose
hose to barb
barb to pump

Yeah I put it all together last night, I'm not 100% sold on the setup I did as it has to many spots to leak. What I have done I am going to run with till it's all up and running and then redo it.

Just the pump mounted

That's the exact way I pictured the filter setup to be, even that exact filter.

What size is the threading on the barb?

I didn't trust the nylon inside a hose. I turned down two brass barbs, rammed them in the nylon and then clamped them.

You have a lot more going on there then I did, my frame is straight. :icon_twisted:

It is a little small, I have another slightly bigger one I am going to switch to

Yeah, almost couldn't find a suitable spot for it lol

So it looks like a mechanical fan is out of the question, if i shop right I can fit a electric fan. What cfm electric fan will I want to use, and how inefficient is a puller fan as I have a lot more room in front of the radiator then I do behind it?

A puller fan is more efficent then a pusher.

I'm running a Taurus fan setup on mine and only running the low setting, it keeps my engine cool.

Or you can run a thin mechanical and electric pusher, what 85 Ranger4x4 is running.

There are many options.

I want to run a puller fan before a pusher but I have tight clearances because of where the engine is placed. I only have a little under 2 1/4" from the water pump to the radiator. I would like to run the set up 85 has but I can't find the dimensions of the little adapter you have to run.

Also what it's your alternator amperage output? An electric fan sites like it's current. Mines 65 amps, I want to go to at least 100 one day but since I had to get a new one in a pinch, I had to stick with what I had.

I've been wanting to look up using the GM one wire alternator but haven't had much time or luck on wiring it up or what will fit my application.

I think that is about what I had for clearance, I will try to remember to measure it for you tonight.

I had qualms about it for the very same reason, I took the gamble and it worked for me.

The slim flexfan can't do it all by itself especially for you that will be running in city traffic. For me post flexfan I rarely hear the efan kick on if the truck is moving.

This is the fan I have, rated at 18.5A. They make the same thing as a puller part number 118.

My stock 2.9 alternator (65a?) ran my pusher fine, the Explorer alternator runs about 130A.

Everybody goes nuts over the "one wire" alternator, I like having the switching wires so the alternator can run as needed rather than when it is needed and above a certain rpm. We do tons of 6V/12V generator to 12v alternator conversions on tractors and have excellant luck with the later three wire Delco alternators.

On my truck going from the 2.9 alt to the Explorer alt I just had to flip two wires around on the connector. Pretty simiple hookup.

My biggest thing is what plugs and plays but also the pulley not sticking out to far.

May need to upgrade to the exploder fead and be done.

My Taurus fan pulls around 30 amps continuously on low. My alternator stays warm too.
