So, I know everyone makes a big deal about the NP-205 for twin stick… but the Ford options for finding that transfer case appear to end in 1979 which makes them rather rare to come across around here. I know Chevy and Dodge ran them into newer models but I believe at least the Chevy ones would be a passenger side drop which doesn’t work with our rigs in standard configuration. Not sure about Dodge. I’m still going to start keeping an eye open for one, but I’m wondering if there may be any newer/more common options for a transfer case that can be converted to twin stick or if the options really are just NP-205 or Atlas/Behemoth/etc.

I’m a long way away from putting a T-case like that to use, but I’m starting to build ideas and a list of things to start acquiring. This will be going in something with SuperDuty axles and I haven’t really fleshed out the whole plan yet.

there are setups to do rear drivelines. not cheap but workable. and q/d yokes as well.

the dana 20...one type should have front and rear....the dana 300...you just put em both in n...then just engage the front drive side.... i am down to one ford 205 again. similar setup.

they are heavy.

I don't know of anyone making twin stick kits for any chain driven transfer case and I don't think it's even possible to do it easily like on a gear drive unit... you'd have to totally redesign the guts. That's why you don't see twin stick kits available for almost anything past 1980... nothing at all past about '93, I think GM & Dodge had 205's in certain trucks up till then.

Basically what Bobby said... I don't know if you can adapt a Jeep or Bronco D18 or D20 directly to a Ranger transmission, same goes for the Jeep D300 and any 205. I do know that Behemoth will build an underdrive box that has a Ranger trans input & bolt pattern and you can bolt a Ford 205 onto it. Maybe they could do one for a D300. I think the D20 is simply not worth even considering due to all the parts and adapters and $$$ required to make it work...

Atlas no longer makes a transfer case that will bolt up to our transmissions either by the way. I imagine finding one of those will cost you a LOT more than finding a 205 and a Behemoth adapter... but it would be by far the best option.

Dodge used 205's behind the first gen Cummins trucks. At minimum I would suspect the speedometer drive would be different.

Not sure about GM, I know in the 80's you could only get them in cab-chassis trucks and of course PS drop.

Low range is less than ideal but otherwise I love it. Twin stick is very addictive. Easy to shift and instant low range is awesome, I wish everything came that way.

They are heavy, it was about all I could do to get my t-case hung on my trans. Some transmissions will require a spacer, if you need one I have the .dwg you can take to get one burned out.

I have mulled an atlas to get a deeper low range.

bolting a d300 or 205 to a ranger transmission is just a matter of money and shipping time.

the dana 300 while hard to find is likely the best deal in terms of packaging and weight.....but by the time you buy all of the shit to flip it and have two adapter spuds to fail rationality is out the window....unless you really want 4 to 1 low and can get away with it.

still adapting a 6 hole atlas is the better deal.

the behemouth solution might be the best all around deal. no experience with them...and northwests costs to do my original 241 setup are now making an atlas 4 speed look like a reasonable option for cross country use. i had two econoboxes over the years intended for my ranger that have ended up in full size blazers....i wont buy anything until my rig is apart and ready for the change.

front only dig is definitely a great option with a 130 inch wheel base.

and a k member i bought from off road design i was going to mod for my truck is in the one blazer...

they have good stuff too. i had thought about adapting thier k truck front suspension system as well to my ranger chassis....i wheel with some of thse trucks and it would be so easy to use their setup... blows the duff setup away.

Since we are all just blowing lil blue's money... if the truck is big enough to justify SD axles I would look at a fullsize transmission/engine as well.

well....i agree....great point.

that would include your bronco drivetrain....

i say Amanda should do a godzilla or hemi swap and donate the 2.3 to this project.

of course.....with blue paying for it...

This…

The only thing stock Ranger with this particular build will be body. Maybe just the cab. I haven’t decided on power plant yet. I want SD axles, 40-44” tires, twin stick case with doubler and that’s about as far as my plan has gotten. Engine/transmission combo will be the most suitable that I can come up with and ideally connect to the doubler/t-case without an adapter.

So my main question was just basically what are my options to twin stick beyond a 205 that might be more available and work with a set of SD axles. Things older than about 1997 are pretty rare in local junkyards anymore for RBV and about 1985 for full-size.

My other sort of curiosity was if there’s any twin stick options for a RBV or if it’s all specialty at this point. It would be pretty cool to have a twin stick in the Choptop, but not really needed.

Oh, and just throwing out t-case numbers isn’t a super big help, I need to know what to find them in. I know only BW 1350/1354 and the NP-203/205 stuff as far as what to find them in.

well. then.....buy two godzillas.....and give amandas 2.3 and 10 speed to me....

i really want one of those 2.3 10speeds..... this is a great deal for you.

A 2.3 eco-wizzer with a 10-speed is on my list of things I’d like to get… I have a few ideas for how to use one…

LS, TH400 & an Atlas... done deal.

So basically my end goal is to build a capable off-roader and potential recovery rig… LS could work, I’ve seen that frequently used. Also thought about a Cummins. Or I dunno. There’s definitely drivetrain options to do what I want.

My real thing was a desire to see if there is some junkyard T-case options that can be rigged with a twin stick so I could start working on collecting a couple. Or if the 205 is the thing to get beyond really opening up the wallet for aftermarket T-cases.
