Turbo fun

Right, I forgot about one block difference, once they went to roller cam they went to a smaller main bearing which is supposed to be a stronger setup...

In 1989 is when they went to the smaller mains. The smaller mains slows down the surface speed on the main journals.

They started with the small main in 88, around half year the introduced the 8 plug 2.3 as an option. In the mustangs it wasn't till 91.

how reliable is she going to be at around... 350-400? my mustang never skips a beat and its over 400 and what am i going to need on this 'lil 4 banger to get up there?

Good pistons, a turbo, good fuel pump, fuel injectors, a tuner, and a good tune. Maybe some port work, and/or cam

ive got a ported head (eslinger maybe) with a cam, are the parts im going to be getting get good enough?

Yes, I would say you have the capability to make more horsepower with the parts you want than the crank will handle. You may look in to a turbo specific cam though. A good high rpm n/a cam will not perform well at low rpms boosted. Is the cam you have roller, or flat tappet??

roller i believe.. what cam would you recommend? where could i get a stronger crank for reliability's sake?

The stock crank should be fine unless your shooting for crazy boost/power, and or high rpms. With the stock 2.3 block being a thin wall casting (even though it may feel like it when you pick one up). With a stronger crank the stock block becomes the weakest link as reliability goes especially with a turbo with lots of boost.

I have been told buy one of my most trusted 2.3 guys that the 2.3 can handle almost 600 hp

well shit maybe ill try to dial it in around 400 horse, id hate to have a block fail on me but i guess if i want big power ive got to spend big money, when my 351 block failed it took a few thousand dollars of internals with it

Yeah, moderation is good. If you buy an aftermarket block, and all the goodies to go with it (about $11,000) you can push, I've seen on sand dragsters, 1200HP, turboed nitrus motors, but you can make a dependable Streeter at 700.

yeahhhhh my mustang will get that before the daily does lol

The guy I mentioned before, his daily is an 86 svo that is turbo into supercharger. Its a 2.7, and it makes 550 hp.
