No way its a C6 mated to a 4.6.

+1.

No way it would be in a light half ton of any year. Never mated to a mod motor.

And it would be easier/simpler/cheaper.

Actually.....

F100s were considered light 1/2s and ran the C6 behind the 351 M....

Just sayin...:icon_thumby:

Original owner custom orders the truck for horse trailers from the hitch. Previous owner did minor engine upgrades. PO was a friend who passed away and left the truck to my dad. I think dad still has the window sticker. If I can i'll try to get a pic of that.I honestly don't know what engine it has. He said it wasn't 5.4 but it is a Triton V8.

Its either a 4.6 or 5.4. If 5.4 it MAY have a 4R100 which is based off of a C6 and thus may have a little more cost being a bigger heavier duty trans. And being not overly common it may be "non standard"

I had a '92 F150 with a 5.0/C6 combo, but somebody had mixed and matched all kinds of stuff on that thing. It started life as a five speed truck.

98 5.4 would be a E4OD. The 4R100 didnt come around till 99. The E4OD (and 4R100 i believe) are more less electronically controlled C6s with O/D and lockup converters.

The 4R70W iirc is based on the AOD.

Fast,
The C6 wasnt offered behind a 302, to my knowledge, ever. That being said, after 89ish the C6 was only used in 3/4ton+, and was killed in 96.

Right, it started life as a five speed. Somebody had thrown in a C6 from another truck. Probably an F250 with a 351.

what's the difference in the 4R100 and the E4OD? he was told they are the same, and that is what he has.

C6 evolved into the E4OD, and the last version of the E4OD was renamed the 4R100 (in 1998 I believe).

IIRC the only reason it changed names was to go along with fords new way of naming trannys. I dont think there were any real, meaningful changes.

There were several changes that occurred simultaneous to the name change. I think the drim was one of them. But yes, the new name was used to confirm to the newer convention.

Starting to make sense. So he has a 98 F150 ext. Cab with a5.4 and a 4r100 tranny. Is it possible he has a 4.6 with the same transmission
What other engine options were available?
He'said convinced it's a 4
6

Eaisest way to tell is tell him to check the door sticker under "trans", read the code. Thatll tell us, without question, which trans is in it.

Unless, its been swapped at some point.

Eaisest way to tell a 4.6 from a 5.4 is pop the hood and look at the throttle body cover. If thats missing then the 8th digit of the VIN, or the emission label on the core support will tell you.
