Truck wont go

I was going by what they told me and the vin. See what you can find on it. You have peaked my curiosity.

In the right truck, with the right gears, I think a 5.4 could do it. It certainly won't be as happy about it as a 460, or a 6.8, but it would do it.

In a reg cab 2wd with a 4.30 rear i might try a 5.4. im just not a fan of screaming 4000rpm on any kind of hill. Which is why im having trouble turning loose of my PITA 460 for a newer gasser.

I used to tow it with my 77 with a emission choked 400, C6, and a 3.07 rear. It did the job to, but it wasnt pleasent.

He hasn't pulled the trailer in over 3 months, but has driven the truck as a daily driver along with the Lincoln Continental he's been working on, drove it Thursday,Friday NO GO. Says it has a factory tow pkg, 3:55 rear end, Used a $80 trans kit from NOTOZNE, or Discount auto Farts, changed filter and gasket with flush. No chunks in pan, looked "Normal" to him.

Tow package is the receiver and trailer connector.

My truck has a 5.4 and isn't rated for that much weight let alone that much weight shaped like a house.

My FIL's '13 with a 5.0 has its hands full with their 27" bumper pull.

why would it take so long to finally give up, 3months?

Damn really? I seriously was considering that same truck to replace my 460....

Dad says he's got a transmission cooler and trailer brake hook-up also as part of the tow package. Does this sound right or are those add ons by previous owner from the dealership? He knows the truck Manuel pretty well and says it's a factory installment. How much would it help him with pulling the camper, if any?

He got the camper 8 months ago, pulled it less than 20 miles, hasn't pulled it since. Last Thursday his battery died. After a charge, the truck won't go. Put it in gear and give it gas, it jerks into gear around 3000rpm

Side note : Truck is capable of pulling 12000 pounds and the trailer is 7000. Don't see the trailer as the problem.

Capable does not mean you should. My ranger is capable of pulling a 35' with my 5.0 but I would not be able to stop or steer hardly.

12k is probably the combined rating of truck+trailer.

Might be something electronic too.

Its really hard to diagnose the most complex part of a truck at this distance...

The trailer very well might not be the problem, it will be a problem in the future though.

He has trailer brakes to help with stopping, and he doesn't pull the trailer around like a lawnmower trailer. The truck showed no signs of wavering and pulled with zero problems so I'm starting to agree with 85 in that the trailer is not the issue at hand, ... For now ...

New details. So the truck was taken to a transmission shop after given a price. Then they call back and say it is a nonstandard transmission and will cost $300 more to rebuild. Does this sound right or is my Pops getting scammed?

Ask how it is nonstandard?

Cut and dry it about has to be a 4R70W. Stupid common trans.

:It may be a C6 transmission. He assumed it was the 4R70W, but apparently not. Details are coming slow stay tuned.:yahoo:
