Hey guys. I pooched up my transmission (4r55e) and replaced it with a tranny and torque converter from a 99 explorer (I believe 5r55e). Everything bolted up and stuff and I had to swap the shifting...module? The thing on the side that the shifting cable thing attaches to.

It drives (better than the ol 4r55e) but it is definitely not perfect. I adjusted the bands but it didn't help much. I may turn the bands in a quarter turn as they may have even made them a bit worse. Here is the problems:

-When I put it in D or R (drive/reverse) it takes about 2-3 seconds to actually engage things and start going. If I put it in and gun it it just revs up like its in neutral

-2-3 shift flare (EPC solenoid I believe?)

-Other gears sometimes flare between shifts as well

-In first gear if I gun it (trying to break loose and drift...I can't resist the snowy roads) sometimes it would rev up and then drop outta gear and just rev and not spin the tires. I am not sure if it is slipping or going into neutral

Any advice guys? I kinda wanna get a CVB valve body...how much would that help?

Sounds like the valve body or the gasket is toast. I have a valve body aval. I PMed you if you need it. Do you have any CEL codes? And how many turns out on the band adjustment did you go?

I will most likely take the valve body from you. No Codes. There was some right off the bat but I panicked and cleared them...like an idiot. And I have had nothing since. Haha. Two turns out on the adjustment, after 120 inch pounds in.

Wait, "shift module"?

Do you mean the trans range sensor?

I may mean that. The thing that the cable from the shifter connects too. Has one big arm bolted on that moves

Kind of sounds like low oil pressure to me you did put a new filter on when you installed it?

If you are throwing codes it might not be your trans at all. The PCM controls how your trans shifts and if your engine is not right it will sometimes effect your tranny. I had this problem and thought it was the trans but wasn't. Reason I have a valve body available.

I should clarify. The 5R55E trans range module did not have the right connecter to bolt up to my try. So I took the one from my 4r55e (came stock with the truck) and bolted it to the 5r55e tranny so then the wiring hooked up right. Is this a problem?

I did not. I should've taken the pan off and changed it. I may yet do that. I did add in an external oil filter tho. Are the filters in the valve body? Transmission internals are somewhat of a mystery to me haha

No codes so far. What was your problem? Also what all new stuff is with the valve body? Would I need to get a new VB gasket too? I am assuming yes. And what about seperator plate and gasket...I hear from my limited research that that can be a problem as well?

The valve body I have has everything and is ready to bolt up. It has all the upgraded parts in it too. Central Valve Body assured me it was all I needed. My problems were many little problems that added up to a crappy running truck. I finally got it all ironed out and my tranny ended up being fine.

Gaskets and filter too? Its all included? And new stuff:

-sometimes it seems like the torque converter is locking and unlocked. I was driving along at highway speed and (classic ranger) it didn't have enough power so it was going to downshift, but it was at 2100 rpms...then goes to 2500 rpms...then back to 2100 rpms, then did that again...then downshifted a bit later. I dunno if that was seperate or related to the downshifting.

Also...codes! The "six" codes came back

4 P0000's??
P0136
P0155

You need to take care of the codes before doing anything about a slipping trans. Sounds like you have some o2 sensor problems. Check the wiring to them first. Engine problems will cause tranny issues. Fix them first.
Hold off on the valve body till you figure the rest out.

Dang truck. Gets brutal mileage too. Maybe I will sell it. Haha. Nah. Yeah I will check the 02 stuff first

02 stuff shoul be good. I did have a header leak...that may affect the readings eh? I changed the header to head gasket, I'll reset the codes and see what happens. Assuming the 02 sensors aren't the problem then what? Does a 5r55e with 5r55e valvebody in a 4r55e computer? So far so good I guess. But I did hear somewhere that the solenoids are electronically different??
