It started as a project. The Ranger originally lost drive and maybe 3rd, but could drive on 2 and 1, with reverse. It had that for a while and sat.
So I fired it up this year, and it started off like before. However, I suddenly lost reverse and it seems like pressure was building up in the transmission when trying to move the truck forward or backwards with the old valve body.
There was some back and forth reverse and driving forward.
I installed a rebuilt from Central Valve bodies, and the fix was partial. I could get drive but did not get back reverse. It also moved forward in neutral. Regarding the reverse, I would pull the lever into R and the truck automatically shut off twice. Then in the future attempts, it just didn't move.
The gasket surprisingly, looks undamaged. I also returned the Central Valve Body part and tried putting on a bonded gasket on the old valve body. Old valve body had no reverse or D. This suggests the solenoids on the old valve body is stuck.
