Toyota rant

All i see around here are the snobby moma in siennas and the snobby "american trucks are under me" idiots rolling in lifted tundras.

Uh yeah, about that. Tundra has the highest Made in USA percentage of final product of any US market truck currently sold.

Fine and dandy. Doesnt change the fact their trucks attract clients who otherwise would buy a BMW if they wernt trying to adhere to an image.

Hey. What's wrong with buying a BMW? [emoji16]

Had to say that. That's where my paychecks come from.

My 2006 Ranger is the newest and the only non-Toyota in a fleet of 5 vehicles I have at home (05 Echo, 04 Sienna, 84 Supra, 81 Tercel)

The Ranger had more stuff go wrong than all the Toyotas together, but it's cheap to fix and there are parts everywhere. That's why I like it.

Actually, nothing really. A BMW or mercedes is the only foreign vehicle id ever consider owning.

Really, every time you complain about that Toyota, just keep in mind that parts for 1st gen Rangers and even some 2nd and 3rd gens are becoming hard to find or nonexisistent.

Try finding a throttle position sensor for a 1988 Ranger with a 2.3... I can just about guarantee that it's going to take you a few hours on Google just to get a part # that may or may not fit.

Valve cover gasket for that truck? Parts stores don't have them in stock.

Etc... etc... etc

Toyota is no special case here, Ford is every bit as bad. I have had three Explorers and a Ranger in my shop in the last 6 months with trashed wheel bearings. Four axles with three good spindles between them!!!

Streetsweepers have picked up comparable year Toyota's years ago though.

Won't argue with you there.

Been down that road, that part does not fit. It does however fit a 2.9! The 2.3 TPS has a 3 wire pigtail on it and the throttle blade turns the opposite direction vs most of the TPS modules I've tried (I have a stack of them in the shop.)

It was, in any case, an example. 15 years of keeping junker Fords on the road has taught me that there are just as many oddball/special order parts out there.

I think what aggravates me most about ford is all the dumb midyear changes they make. Like changing the postion on one bolt just so you have to know the vin or build date juat to get your part. Or when they have 3 different sizes of something all 1/4 in different on the same year or whatever.

Yeah... ran into that before. Had to buy ball joints for my F150 years ago - it's definitely an '86, but I had to get them for an '87. '86-older do not fit my beams. It's also one of the only '86's that I've seen that had a factory 9" rear axle... very few of them came with that.

I think the thing that irritates me the most is how they discontinue stuff just when it's getting good. For example the 2v 5.4, 4.0 OHV and the 3v V10. Excellent engines that were replaced with new models that had issues right out of the box.

I'm a staunch GM hater but at least they stay on track with their R&D and improve rather than replace.

On paper the first two engines were improved versions of older engines. 3V 5.4 had a lot more spunk than a 2V and the SOHC 4.0 was a OHV 4.0 with a lot of bandaids trying to stay relevant.

I haven't heard much bad about the 6.2 that replaced the V10 though.

81 Tercel

:headbang:

I had two autos but switched them over to 5 speed. Fun to drive, dependable & economical.

When a part broke, I just headed over the local junk yard.

I never see any old model Toyotas on the road  but plenty of Rangers-
