Bought an 1984 B2 with the TK4 transmission a few months ago and I've been at a standstill with the transmission for a while now. Initially it shifted fine, clutch felt alright, though I only drove it a few minutes before it started spawning all sorts of electrical/mechanical issues that left it in the driveway for several weeks. Once I patched all that up, took it for another drive and the shifter came out of the top of the transmission and was in my lap. So I ordered the aftermarket replacement, put that in, all was good. Went to drive it again and now the transmission is stuck in reverse, won't come out. I took the pan off the transmission, tried to force it unstuck with a pry bar. Put a camera up inside to look at the gears, etc. All looks alright, no metal in the pan.

So, it looks like my first option is to rebuild the transmission, assuming its something with the synchros. I can't find much info on it at all online, only TK5 info, but from my understanding it should be fairly similar. I found one post where the guy documented the entire process for rebuilding his TK5, and in one step he had to make a deep socket for the main shaft nut by welding a nut to a pipe. What are the options other than this? Apparently the overhaul book (that I also can't find) indicates that a Ford speciality tool is used to remove this nut, so any ideas what that tool is? The guy who welded the socket to the pipe said he used a 1-5/8 socket, and the pipe looks to be about 18-20 inches long. Where can I find a tool that fits those dimentions?

Any insight/help would be appreciated. Thanks!
