howdy y'all! i'm wanting to build a wooden framed teeny tiney house in the bed of my truck. i'm wondering about suspension things? is there anything i should know about putting permanent weight on my truck before i do it? anyone have experience in this? thank you!

Welcome to TRS :)

Ranger is rated at 1/2 ton, 1,000lbs, although you may want to add an overload spring to each leaf to make it a level ride for full time weight.

Keep weight LOW, close to the bed, narrow wheel base and high center of gravity is a bad combination.
Wind load from the front will kill MPG, so build out over the cab and angle up not straight up, you can use it as storage area.
Wind load from the side will flip you over, so keep it low profile as much as possible, a "popup" is a good way to do that
Swap bars can help you keep a straight line driving in windy conditions.

Bed removed seems like a better way to do it

A newer full size truck would be better, and the newer engines get better MPG than many smaller engine Rangers

camper or house of any type is going to SWAAAAAY

Not that long ago I looked at a "factory [not ford]" ranger conversion. So it is doable.

Many of us have thought about this.

I like the idea of making the bed mounts a type of QD "modular," to have a regular bed and a popup camper bed that can interchange.

I'd be wary of making anything higher than the cab, which is why I'd go the popup route.

But a box 5ft wide and 6ft long could expand or unfold out to a pretty decent size.
