I've recently picked up an '86 Ranger, and I wanted to join a group to share information and get some tips. It's a regular cab long box XL with dual fuel tanks, 4 speed (+OD) manual, 2WD. It has developed some rust around the rear wheel wells and I'm temped to fix the rust and repaint it next year. Mechanically my truck is very good and It's been very well taken care of. 157k on it and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. It has a very minor leak at the valve cover which I'll address this winter. The clutch chatters a bit under load so I suspect it will need replacing in the near future. It also pulls to the right and has a jumpy speedo needle.
So far I've:
-Installed a respectable stereo (kicker 4-1/2's Alpine deck, and 6" bazooka tube)
-repainted the rear bumper.
-changed the headlights (lost a couple screws!)
-added a box liner and tool box

This weekend I'll be restoring the factory steel wheels. Should I go with the factory gray or flat black? I have new chrome lug nuts, chrome hub covers, and chrome wheel inserts that are reproduction but match OEM.

I've also ordered a new speedo cable. If anyone has pictures of the process it would be great.

I'd like to share pictures of my progress and offer any advice on things I've done.

Howdy and welcome to TRS!

With that much chrome around the wheels, I'd say go black.

Thanks Luke, I'm thinking black as well. I'll post pics this weekend when they're done.
