The importance of running Top-Tier gasoline in your 2019+ Ranger.

I miss the old multi fuel duece and a half we had at my old job. That thing would run happily on old transmission fluid, diesel, kerosene, motor oil whatever.... I think the only thing it wouldn't run on was gasoline. :icon_rofl:

Couple years ago I had to get a new carb for my mower. Lawn equipment shop guy told me the ethanol messes up the carbs on small engines because it evaporates quicker than gasoline and gums up the carbs. Told me to run Sta-Bil in the gas all the time, not just for storage. No problems since I've done that.

I do that. And run the equipment dry when it gets stored for the season.

I'm a Stabil fan also. I've used it in our older equipment and haven't had any issues..... knock on wood.

@bobbywalter 's Ranger is like that. :icon_hornsup:

I'm just gonna NOT use diesel fuel in a gasoline engine and Keep it moving. I have had no problems doing what I've been doing and My Hyundai has a powertrain warranty that will last past the payment plan and my other cars don't seem to care what octane or tier gas they get, as far as I know. :icon_confused:

Yes....yes it is ... Like a cockroach...it runs on most anything filthy with oil
If the zombie apocalypse comes you'll still be rolling.

SOOOooo... at first I was encouraged that Cumberland Farms (INfamous for selling thee highest water content petrol in humid So-Fla) did NOT make the list, BUT... I see that Costco Wholesale DID make the "Top Tier" list... which makes me go hmmmmm... what kind of auditing is there, IF ANY?

I mean if you can double the price of a jar of peanut butter by slapping "Organic" on the label, you fer sure need a "cop" on The Organic Beat to curb that lucrative temptation... that's like Alexandra Daddario passed out at your pool party, WHILE she was rubbing coconut oil on her baps... you KNOW you're going to "check her front-end alignment" before she comes to!

Cheaper to run an additive.

I'm not sure how gasoline quality contributes to carbon buildup on the back of intake valves in a DI engine....?
No fuel, regardless of quality, is being sprayed by the injectors into the intake tract nor at the intake valves.....thus no 'fuel washing' effect.
The Coyote V8s enjoy the best of both worlds with combined Port and Direct Injection.

On a DI engine some gasoline washes past the piston rings into the oil. This fuel/oil/water and sludge gets sucked up by the PCV system and shot directly into the intake. This is where carbon buildup comes from on the valves of a DI engine. Using high quality oil and fuel helps reduce that build up since they have higher levels of detergents in them.

I'd agree that using a high quality oil helps to minimize that crud accumulating on the back of the intake valves.
Oil, especially low grade dino oil, is the cause of 90% of that buildup problem.
Very, very little gasoline gets 'washed by the piston rings' on modern EFI (especially DI) engines.
The burn cycle is so efficient with DI....that's why they switched to it.
A good quality gasoline is responsible for keeping the injectors clean.

Sounds good until you add boost.

And a modern PVC system that catches much more crankcase vapor.

When you have a boosted DI engine, you just add Methanol injection!
- Valve crud buildup problem solved
- No big need for a catch can
- Much higher Octane
- Cooler IATs
- Cooler EGTs

I've got a Snow Stage 3 system on my DI Turbo 2020 Ranger STX and my DI Twin Turbo 2017 Fusion Sport....along with a good tune for each.
I'm sure the intake valves are shiny clean and Yeooow do they run!

I guess I'll be switching to the local Texaco
