Currently trying to engine swap a 2000 4.0 ohv from a 5 speed into a 1996 with the 5r44e, the flexplate, trans bolts, and threads in the engine don’t match up. Has anyone encountered this before and is there a way around it like some sort of adapter, probably should have researched a little more before buying a new engine but anyways thanks for any help, please feel free to reach out if I want clear on anything !

Are you trying to install it with the torque converter bolted to the flex plate?

So... did the 96 auto have a 4.0l?

Or was it a 3.0l?

Well... it just doesn't make much sense they won't line up.

The 90/96 4.0 crank/flex plate has 6 bolts

The 97/2000 4.0 crank/flex plate has 8 bolts

The torque convertors should be the same

Bellhousing to block should be the same

the bolt battery on the back of the motor doesn’t seem to match up strangely enough, ford wouldn’t have put a different bolt pattern for the 4.0 5 speed because it’s still the same engine, no ?

As far as I know just one bolt pattern on a 4.0L.
