Recently purchased an 88 ranger standard cab, 2wd with the goal of creating a budget build to blast around in the dunes of Pismo and to learn the basics.

When it comes to suspension, the dunes of Pismo are relatively soft compared to a desert trail, am I going to need as much suspension travel out in Pismo and would a lift benefit me in any way?

The truck is already in the early stages of stripping, pulling the bumpers, bed, fenders and all non-essentials to build up. It will be sitting on 33s with aired down off road tires.

Welcome to TRS :)

33" tires require a lift, read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TireFitment.shtml

Don't recall hearing anyone complaining about too much travel with suspension, lol, but money is an "object" for most of us.

So you need to match travel with your budget, and maybe an eye to the future to spend a bit more down the road, so what you do now is a benefit for what you "may do" later.

Start here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index-suspension.shtml

Look at what there is and what it can do for your needs.

And will this truck be trailered for off-road only use or a "drive to the site" street legal vehicle?

Thanks Ron,

The truck will be trailered and just used to play around in. No worries about staying street legal or its ability to be a DD

I appreciate the links
