So I have been looking around at videos and such online, I have a 3.0 '02 ranger edge. I am thinking of running a straight pipe, with the cat still on. Is it legal? Would there be any upside? I like the sound, but i wanna stay legal and have it sound good. Or should I run flowmaster 40 with 2.5" pipe?

I did a straight pipe on a 4.0 Ranger, It was annoying loud going down the road.
My 3.0s have 2 1/2" with flowmasters. They sound nice and deep and throaty. Not obnoxious going down the road.

its legal. "upside" is up to you. you wont gain any performance or economy, if thats what you mean. but if you like the way it sounds, that could be considered an "upside".

single, straight pipe exhaust is too rappy and ricey for my tastes.

Awesome, thanks guys. I just wanted to get some opinions. I think i will go with the flowmasters.

Thanks Again.

ive never heard a straight pipe that sounded good. be different get a mac chambered muffler. everyone and their grandma run flowmasters

On my '89 f-150 I had a Flo pro. It is a flowmaster copy for about half the price. Sounds just the same as a 40.

Ok, so i ditched the straight pipe idea. Flowmaster is still up there. But, what about thrush mufflers? Are they comparable to Flowmasters? And, whp has flo pros?

check out videos on youtube there is a ton.. i actually seen a vid of a 3.0 no muffler with duals and it sounded pretty rad. not too raspy, pretty deep and not stupid loud.. check it out

ive ran spintech on a few and they sound awesome. Ive had them on a 2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 4.0, 4.2 and a pair on my old 514bb f250

I used to be a Flowmaster guy, but then "defected" to Magnaflow a couple of years ago. I especially like their straight-through, perforated steel core mufflers. Got some on another vehicle, plan on getting one put on the truck as soon as funds permit. They're really not very loud at all at idle but have a nice, deep "roar" once you put the hammer down. Also, they don't have that annoying, "tinny" resonance at certain RPM's like my Flowmasters did. This seems to be more of an issue with four-bangers.

Just my two cents.

I have Thrush glasspacks on my F-150, I like them. They are about a year and a half old and so far have no rust, and as near as I can tell they still have about the same sound as when I got them.

I think they where about $25 a pop for 2.25" ones when I got them. I had a 2" one on my Ranger and didn't care for it, but it doesn't have any cats on it either, it was plain and simble too loud.
