Standard Cab Long Bed VS Step Side Compatability?

I have a 2011 2.3L 4cyl Standard Cab, and what I believe is a long bed (bed measures from cab to tailgate 6'3-4" but the tailgate has some non-factory curviture that's been implemented post manufacturing so it's hard to get a super accurate measurement) and was wondering how a 2000 Ranger Step Side bed would compare and if it would be possible to replace my OEM bed with the step side.

I've been trying to find any and all information on the bed specs and measurements and have only been able to find information regarding full size truck specs. If anyone has any knowledge regarding this or could guide me to resources where I can find the answers I'm looking for I l'd be super grateful and appreciative!

I suspect you have a shortbed. IIRC my longbed is about 84" from to the back of the tail lights from the front of the bed. In 2011 as options were dwindling I think the longbed option had been gone for a few years.

Easy way to tell is the distance from the fuel door to the front of the bed. Pretty much any bed 93+ will work for you as long as you stay the same length. Stepside was only available as a shortbed.

If the bed lengths match they will physically interchange. Your 11 will have two bolt holes that a 2000 won't have. They didn't move, they are just extra.

Fuel filler neck might cause issues.

long bed was full 7ft, only came on regular cab and frame is different, axle is 6" farther back

any 1993 and up "stepside" bed will fit, they are all 6ft
The rear bumper is narrower on stepside, to match narrower tail gate
And yes, need a different filler tube

Another way to verify what you have is by reading the sticker on your driver side door jamb. It will list your wheelbase which is the length from center if front axle to center of rear axle. If yours is about 108”, you have a single cab short bed truck.

Bumper is different for the stepside two and depending on era the tail light wiring would be different too. Earlier trucks with that bed had amber signals so the wiring was different for them.

Stepside beds used the same light assemblies so you could always use the lights from your original bed (or a junkyard styleside bed). My ranger trailer has light assemblies that were pulled from a junkyard stepside box.

And with stepsides, the bed sides are fiberglass and removable. You can mix and match colors from the junk yard!

Awesome sauce!! Thanks for all the info! I personally like the way the stepside looks and I don't haul things around very much aside from my ice chest and toolbox, but someone in my area is parting out a '00 ranger and the bed looks clean/damage free. Figured if it'd be compatible it' d be worth a shot to make an offer.

I just swapped my slab side bed for a step side on my 2003 with that of a 1996.

the bed dropped right on, new set of bolts and I was good. Plus it can with a tailgate.

the bumper was different, the guy that sold me the bed didn’t have the bumper so I had to get a new one. The tail lights fit, but the wiring harness was not the same. The plugs that go into the taillights didn’t fit so I had to jam them I sideways to get them to work. The wires were also a bit long.

The filler neck fit fine , but the hoses from the filler pipe to the tank were too long so I had to cut a couple of inches off.

Other then that, everything is great.

Regular cab long beds are fairly rare. The vast majority of Rangers are regular cab short beds or Supercabs that use the same short bed. They exist but are not very common.
