Sports car technology in a humble little truck

The Vulcan 3.0 is a high RPM motor... engine. It will get better MPGs and performance when you are above 3k rpm. I used to think the same, until I learned this. If you have an auto trans, then you might be out of luck, but I had a manual, so i could shift whenever I wanted to.

Changing the axle ratio to 4.10 helps a lot. And shifting it manually. Also a tuning chip or tuner to allow you to raise the shift points. I have a JET chip on mine. I still shift it manually more often than not. With the CAI I have, a full three inch tube from the MAF to the TB, it craves high rpms. But it's kind of doggie down low. Even though changing from 3.73's to 4.10's is only a 10% difference, it helps. And keeping the OD off until speed is north of 55 or so helps. Especially when I'm hustling it around a set of curves, it loves to be shifted manually.

I've been waiting to hear what @ecgreen thinks of them... he bought a set for his Bronco II.

You must have ESPN, I just installed them today! Here are my thoughts.

-The seat back is narrow. I am a skinny dude with a narrow torso and I fit just right. If you are a bigger guy, I am not sure you would dig them.

-I used the corbeau brackets. They fit really well and are of really high quality. Between the seat and the bracket, I am sitting an inch or two higher than my old seats (which were from 1989 and ruined). I have about 3 inches between my head and the roof if that. I don't really dig my line of sight out the window that way. The seats will brake-in I am guessing. Gonna wheel with them like that for a while and see what I think. If I don't like the height, I will try the old brackets or build my own.

-Overall quality of the seats is really nice and they are super comfy. Again, for a bigger guy, I am not sure they would like these seats.

Thanks @ecgreen ...

I was honestly afraid of that. I've had a couple different aftermarket seats and it appears to be a common attribute of them. I may just keep looking for some big boy seats.

The seats look very nice and like a true "sports truck." I have been scouring the junkyards with very little luck.

They cost $30.00 each here. This spring I'm going to redouble my efforts, sitting in old cars. making a list of the ones I like. Next I will watch for the new arrivals. If the covering are bad, I don't care. I can even get leather with prices like that. Right now, Mustang buckets are on the top of my list.

Dunno if a shift kit for the auto transmission could help make a 3.0 happier since they like revs. I will say that I did a shift kit in my 92 and never want to run an un-modded auto again. Was a good bit of work, an exercise in patience and a little coin, but well worth it. Nice, crisp shifts without slamming you around, smooth and seemed to perform way better than stock

I bet the Corbeau Baja RS would be better

You have to build brackets for the corbeau seats....unless your short

I had to do the Same to fit the 05 seats in the bronco 2... They are setup more for bob and Madisyn then me...but the corbs should be middle ground.

I was just watching old episodes of "Truck Tech" on RokuTV. They put some Corbeau Seats in a Blue K5 Blazer. The ones they used looked a tad wider in the Lumbar area and had Holes in the seat for a 5 point Harness. Not sure what model they were though.

i bought a corbeau back in the day and i didn't like how they fit and they were not terribly comfortable. i put it in my autocross bmw and after one or two weekends of racing, i took it out and put the stock bmw sport seats back in.

i won't buy corbeau again because of that. and i am 5'8" and 195 pounds so if you are bigger than i am, i would for sure be wary buying them

The auto in my 3.0 has a shift kit. Man, it bangs the gears now. The only shift that remains soft is going into OD. Otherwise, "BANG" and I know it shifted. That and 4.10 gears totally changed the way it drives.

Wasn’t sure how that would be with the 3.0 and 4R/5R trans. For sure it turned the mushy A4LD to a crisp snap but short of a bang. Gone was the mushy, sloppy shifts common to the A4LD. Didn’t change shift points really, dunno if that’s an option, I was only concerned with the A4LD and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of options for those. Good to know that it’s a worthy improvement to those too.

Seems like everyone with a 3.0 likes those 4.10 gears. I'm going hunting in the junkyards this spring.

I rewatched the episode and found out it was the "Baja JP Suspension" seats. Website shows a "wide" option

We ran very similar seats in buggies over the years (Beard Super Seats) they were pretty nice. They would never work for me in My Bronco II... side bolsters are way to high to slide into the seat.
