Sound barrier under the carpet

I did a search but it didn’t locate anything applicable.
1999 Ranger extended cab
I had to pull the carpet for a deep clean and when I did all of the “stuff” between the carpet and the bare metal came off. The floor of the cab is now down to clean bare metal. What sound proofing/insulation do I need to put down before I relay the fitted carpet? Thanks!!

I used this from Home Depot. It's self adhesive and easy to cut.

@BobSacamano: how well does that work? I want to make my truck quieter inside, but some of that sound deadening stuff is stupid expensive (think DynaMat).

I have no personal experience with either, BUT..

I can assume dynamat would be MUCH more effective. The stuff is HEAVY.

I DO know based off of reading various threads about dynamat installation that it's not exactly necessary to have 100% complete coverage. You can get away with just focusing on sticking it to the biggest flattest areas and pretty much ignore parts of the cab that have contours/ribbing/ whatever.. as it's the big flat areas that will create/experience the most resonance while driving down the road.. like the roof underneath (or above?) the headliner. The dynamat has enough weight that it'll stiffen those big flat areas up enough so they don't vibrate.. greatly reducing noise.

I used a generic Dynamat from Summit Racing, it was a lot cheaper and it seems to work OK.
