Some Requested pictures. of my rear frame rust and shackles

go through a lot of welding wire :icon_welder: i dunno mines not bad at all the frame is the only thing not rusting out on mine

The truck wil be going to custom car car in salem.. latest is thursday the guy who owns it will deffiatly give it his all. He welds all i need is what.. 2 feet of 6 inch wide steel plates welded along the side.. give or take a few in... Just to brace the new shackles and then it will be undercoated. Im hoping to have it done for like 350 bucks.

you better make sure what it is going to cost first i do not think $350.00 going to do it.need to make sure the frame is squared up other wise it is to dog track. then i don't know if you have a state safety inspection they might frown in the fix. but that fix is common on northern states and jeeps. a guy i know in florida bought a michigan cj jeep that needed the rear 24" of the frame boxed up think he thought he got a good deal for $750.00 that was done at a shop that did mostly jeeps.

this looks like its mostly only surface rust just clean it up and paint it i would give welding the hole up a try

Yes, this is a fixable deal, but the reason why it rusted that bad that quickly still confuses me. My shackles and shackle mounts on my 92 are the only things that are somewhat rotted out, but to have that whole section of frame rotted THROUGH!!??

Thats 1/8"+ thick steel, for it to rot through, it would've needed a corrosive bath every day.

I dunno. Just seems weird.

When I first saw this thread title, I thought "I'm from Michigan, I've seen worse rust". After actually looking at the pics, that's worse than anything I've ever seen. And being a '98, that just doesn't add up to me. But at least it is fixable.

Umm im in florida...... unless it's from the coast we never see rust but on older 15-20 yr old vehicles..... nothing like this.....I mean stuck bolts that have to be cut yeah, but dang man ya'll people call this about normal up north..... no wonder it's so dang expensive to live up there.

i still have yet to see a frame rusted thru on a car in nj. even with the extra salt they put down my ranger only has surface rust dd commuter for 20 years before i got it(which reminds me i gotta clean the frame and paint it)

You would probably be futher ahead by selling that truck! "As-Is" to some one else!!

I see NO future investments in this vehicle, unless you are going to drive it for years to recoup, I say, sell, sell, sell!:icon_thumby:

the frame of my truck is all scabby and so is most of the other parts. only reason i said paint is cause the undercoating is like $7 a can

The truck is Very fixable it is at the shop right now i may even be able to get it done for 200 bucks. He does NH State inspections and probably knows everything about mass inspections as well so i think it will be done correctly to pass inspection.

Also i noticed on the drivers side i have a snapped leaf spring :yahoo:

Got to love that so that will need to be fixed. So far ive spent 300 on parts. But i have another 100 to spend before i dip into my real money as i got 400 from selling trash that i picked :icon_thumby: So i think it will work out.

The guy looked at it and said it wasnt as bad as he thought it would be hahaha
The truck is a 98' Yes but it sat in a driveway with the back filled up with wet crappy leaves and it did the rear end in..

The drive shaft was actually hitting the bed or hitting something it was just dragging along no shackles no shocks..
