My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
I've read on this fine forum about Ford-compatible seats going all the way back to the 80s vintage Turbo T-bird Coupe, plus later models of Fusion, Focus, Escort, Merkur-derivatives, etc...

... but the Ford-Mazda partnership/model-twinning goes back to at least 1980(?), so I'm guessing there's several Mazda coupes and sedans (and SUV/SAVs?) with the same mounting footprint, etc... yes/no/maybe?

that may be true, swap the seat rails & as long as the floor mount hole spacing side to side is correct, it should work. I thought there was a thread on this at one time. Seems I remember escort gt seats being s easy change out, personally I always was a fan of finding another ranger passenger seat & putting it in the drivers location. Less wear & tear compared to a seat with 100% driver seat time, only drawback is the adjustment for seat back (recline) positioning is now on the inside between seats but who messes with that much anyway?, especially in a reg cab.

up till the 90's, the focus on cost savings was to make things "universal" so there was less jigging and they could reuse parts between models (like the low end base model seats in small car and medium car)... so I think you will find just about everything in the 80's will swap.

The only key is to get the exact same bolt spacing on the seat to rail. somewhere in the 90's the cost savings idea was to cut down 1/10th of nothing on everything they could to get savings on material and as an added bonus better fuel economy to you with least material needed (at the expense of jigging, warehousing, and swap-ability).

I have a hunch if you take a tape measure to the junkyard and know your measurements of a ranger you will find a bunch swap - a bunch more than just listed.

I have heard that the square four bolt thing was some kind of standard used by the largest seat rail manufacturer. I wouldn't be surprised if almost any compact vehicle from the 80s-90s fits.

What about the Ford Probe GT/Mazda MX-6 "twins"... cool seats? Ranger-compatible?

90's 626 seats are nice. Dunno how they'd be in a truck tho.

I fixed my busted seat back with parts from a foxbody seat.

Look up the Ford vehicle on Wikipedia to see what other vehicles shared the same platorm. For example, if you look up the Ford Escape the article mentions the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner.
