I drive around with towing a spare Ranger. That way, if the one I'm driving quits I can use the spare to tow it home.
Seriously, the only spare thing I've carried with me is a tire and maybe oil or water for vehicles I used to have that leaked or burned oil just so I could keep going. Fan belts, radiator hoses, fuel filter, and other "common failure" should be replaced on a preventative maintenance schedule unless you like replacing fan belts in a WinCo parking lot when it is 100°.
