Rebuilding '98 Ford Ranger 4.0

I inherited this Ranger from my sister-in-law who did not change oil, even though I chided her often. The body/interior is beautiful. The cylinder walls and heads are excellent (except for intake valve carbon) at 110K miles, except that the lower end is a disaster. Rebuilding engine at home, replacing crank, cam, lifters, pistons, etc., ie the whole nine yards. I do not have a press for the piston pins. Has anyone had experience freezing the pins and installing them from that angle? If not, I'll have to take the pistons to the machine shop who is milling the heads and doing some bolt extracting. I want to do them myself as the shop is so far behind and very few shops are left
 
let the machine do it the fit is still too tight and they have the tools to pull it off without damage to parts.
 
They used dry ice offshore to do a few things. The one I liked most was putting a piece into an EMD engine sleeve and wait for the "clink!". We got groceries in big shipping crates and it was cooled with chunks of it.
Those engines were 16 cylinder diesel and mostly found in ships. I had one for the mud pumps (they shared a common transmission) and one nearby was the motorman.s generator to the rig
